    Default Primo 1.2 in Double Din GPS

    I have successfully run Igo 8.3 and Primo 1.1 on my chinese all in one and have upgrade to Primo 1.2.
    I like 1.2 the best out of all the versions but it seems a bit unstable. The voice, (not TTS) stutters a bit and the display seems to lag compared to the previous versions. I have had some crashes but mostly runs OK just a bit sluggish.
    Does anyone have any ideas as to what changes can be made to make it run more reliably or does the present version have unresolved issues?
    Running diMkaWA skin.
    My sys.txt is
    rawdisplay]
    screen_x=800
    screen_y=480

    [gps]
    port=2
    baud=9600

    [folders]
    app="\SDMMC"
    content="\SDMMC\content"
    (I could not get primo to load with this in the sys.txt, kept getting "global_cfg missing" error. ended up deleting all the above folders commands and it worked fine)

    [interface]
    extra_settings=1

    I have gone back to iGO 8.3.4.
    with GJ6.18 skin.

    I have tried Primo 1.2 and got similar issues.
    I put it down to my 2 din unit only having 64M memory.

    I also have 64mb of ram from what I can gather, and that could be the problem.
    Primo 1.1 seems to run pretty solid, but seems to look bland and cheap compared to 1.2 or even 8.3
    1.2 seems to be running better now that it did when I first installed it, so I will give it a few more days. I keep separate SD cards in the car with 8.3 1.1 and 1.2 so I can just swap them over if the GPS becomes unstable.
    Is there an easy way of upgrading the ram? I could never get the TTS to work stably on 8.3 but it did work and I just figured it was lack of ram.

    i had audio loss issues until upgrading to the 1.2 (15 Feb 2011) version. check that you have this version and not the 11 Feb 2011 version.

    Thanks ShootingBlanks,
    I thought I had the latest version, I am downloading the later version now and hope that fixes the audio and sluggish problems.

    My attempts at 1.2 all result in a crash after 2 seconds. I don't have a common resolution system (400x236) but with Previous Primo 1.1 have simply added the "stretch=1" command in sys.txt for full success.
    Not sure if it's just a resolution problem or something else. I'd like to persevere with 1.2 as it is net linked, and I have recently succeeded in converting my chinese in-car unit to WiFi and am "on line" through the htc phone's WiFi router. Would be good to see if the on-line TMC built-in to Primo 1.2 and Google search are functional...

    Does anyone know how to create a data.zip for a different resolution or have any other thoughts on my "crash" problem?

    cheers,
    ..Neil

    Baz, could you post a link to download 1.2? I'll have it tested on my 6" 800x480 128MB and reported the results. Thanks.

    I now have an Oz version of Primo 1.2 working stably in my Car 2 Din with Win CE5 64 Meg ram. Also same one works well on an 2 din win CE6 128Meg in Cazzles car
    It has embedded GJ schemes and skin folder to fix the day/night bug.

    Here is my testing file to test out your unit= (700Mb~)

    I am also investigating how to release more memory for the Nav program, any ideas?

    Hi there,

    I've tried using this file on my unit but as soon as I start the navigation app, it came up with an error messgage saying,

    Out of memory.
    Requested: 1701978227
    Cashe: 0

    My unit has got 128MB and it's Win CE 6.0 with resolution of 800X480

    Any help with that would be highly appreciated.

    Many thanks

    Hi Bazzle, firstly thanks for that file, sometimes i wish most would do as you did, just upload the whole file, anyway, is there just the primo pack without gj skins, i'de like a std version, then i can try it out with the dimka skins.

    kind regards.

    to get this going on a yfatlas4 unit, use the attached sys txt....

    Code:
    [3d_config]
    rotated_roadsigns=0
    roadsign_lines_per_screen="20"
    disable_roadsign_navigation_mode="1"

    [3d]
    max_pois_on_horizont="2"

    [interface]
    show_exit=1
    extra_settings=1
    resolution_dir="480_272"
    vga=0

    [screen]
    nightmode="1"

    [sound]
    csv_voice_enabled=1
    ding=0

    [warning]
    speedcam_maxdistance_from_road=50
    then mod it as required....

    Just wanna thank Bazzle for the link and report the results. It works like a champ on my Chinese 6" and double-din. Also works fine on my iPAQ312. The new interface is great and heaps of new features in this version.

    Hi there,

    I tried the same (IGO Primo 1.2) on my chinese 7" double din unit but i got 'Out of memory' error message. And my unit's got 128MB RAM. Any suggestions? I've got IGo 8.3.2 running fine though.

    Both my GPS are 128MB, the iPAQ312 is also 128MB. Try to reset the unit and turn off the bluetooth to reserve the memory. That's all I can think of. Give it a go.

    The Baz - My Chinese all in one has am 800 x 480 screen but the Win CE 5.0 software only runs at 480 x 234. Does your Win CE run at full res?

    hi bazzle, thanks for the download, i have changed the settings of the voice as i am still getting "out of memory" on my 7" car dvd-gps 64 mb ram, seems changing the voice through the options to "natural" works, once i use the TTS it says out of memory even with what you recommended, although on "natural" i now won't hear what the next street to turn into, anyways, i'de strongly suggest changing this line

    [warning]
    speedcam_maxdistance_from_road=50

    to this

    [warning]
    speedcam_maxdistance_from_road=400,200

    50 meters of warning is not enough, just changed mine to these settings and works well.
    is there a fix for the out of memory? can we make another folder then point the memory to use that, seeing as we have so much available memory on the card still left?, i was thinking of partitioning the card and then pointing the sys.txt to that, but i've heard of the problems when partitioning an SD card, what do you think?.

    regards.

    Viper, the "out of memory" issue is due to the internal memory (RAM), not the memory space on the SD card. Seems there not much can be done, unless there is a way to free up some RAM to make room for the memory-hungry TTS.

    Sadly Ive started to get persistent memory issues again during a programmed trip.
    Fidddled with all the stuff I and others posted earlier with no longlasting sucess.
    It is just the limitations of 64Mb I reckon.
    Gone back to iGO8.3.2 with GJ6.18 skin.

    SMARTUFO, thanks for your reply, o.k, now i know this might sound dumb, i've been looking at partitioning an sdcard to use the other partiton as an alternative memory, then pointing the memory to use it, but what about creating a file say "memory" within the sd card in teh primo folder, then pointing the sys.txt to use it, i will give it a go (not that i will be succesfull), how about a line like this;

    [debug]
    memory= "%%sdcard%%\primo\memory
    max_memory=268435456 bytes (256 mb)
    reserve_memory=268435456 bytes (256 mb)
    cache=268435456 bytes (256 mb)

    or does anyone know how to do this? cause i ain't no expert.

    cheers.
