    Default sound problems with primo

I have a chinese 2 DIN unit that has this habit of turning down the volume whenever iGO has some noise to make (voice/key etc).

In 8.3 I turned off all the sounds and when I use the GPS there's no problem. In Primo even when I've turned off all the sounds, touching the screen will still cause the unit to turn down the volume of whatever is in the background (either MP3 or radio). Does primo handle the sounds differently somehow?

(Also noticed, in primo when the voices [non-TTS] read out the distance to the next direction theres some lag in reading the numbers like, 2 *short pause* hundred and *short pause* thirty metres)

    To Sunnyl,

I've just managed to get Igo Primo 1.2 running on my chinese 7'' double din unit and I also notice that same sound issue you mentioned and o boi, that's so annoying. I wonder if there's any tweaks to it, may be something in sys.text. Hopefully someone's happy to share the knowledge.

I have the same issue with Primo on my Chinese single DIN all-in-one DVD. I thought it might be dynamic volume but I've turned that off and its still the same. Thing is mine turns the volume down even when there is no sound to make, just seems to be random, even when I am not following a route, just have the map on. I had a similar issue with igo 8.3.4 but that only turned it down when there was a sound to make - the issue was that it didn't turn the radio back up again for about 5 or 6 seconds.

    Any help would be appreciated

    Interesting.

Some 2 din units have a button , normally top right of the unit that changes the sound mode.
Radio etc only, radio and Navi combined, Navi cuts out radio and overplays.

is there a sound button or setting on your unit somewhere that may need changing?

I have two of these units and both of them have the same issue. However, one is slightly better than the other.

In the set up menu, you can choose either navigation with music or without. That has nothing to do with the problem we are discussing here.

I believe the problem is a combination of both the unit firmware as well as the iGO primo 1.2. However, the primo 1.1 is somehow less effected.

When you even mute the key touch sound, the background music still effected if the screen is touched.

To change the sys.txt may not have any positive results a program revision update is required. I hope someone can come up with a patch to completely remove the issue.

The problem is that, even with the radio not on, Primo tries to adjust the non-existant radio volume all the time. My unit seems to set 2 volumes, one for normal radio volume and one for the radio volume when a navigation command is needed. Even if I set these to the same volume there is an annoying half a second pause of silence.

The issue for me is that Primo does this muting/sound thing even when I'm stationary, so there should be no need for a command etc. It does it every 5-10 seconds. The only way to listen to the radio without this annoying thing is to mute the master volume of Primo, but then obviously you have a silent Sat-Nav....

If you cant get a resolution maybe another reason to go back to iGO8.3.4 with gj 6.18 skin like I have with too many Primo probs atm..?

Nope no resolution from me...been having this problem for ages. Rather than with Primo I think the issue is with the firmware/WinCE doing the mixing.

Primo is merely telling the OS to play a sound and the firmware/OS is mucking around with the volume.....

Still having this issue with my Eonon DVD unit running Win CE 5. Igo 8 runs OK, but I much prefer the interface in Primo. I can run it fine with the master sound muted but always get the problem I mentioned above on any version of Primo (1.1, and 1.2 etc)

Is there a setting under the units "tools/sound" to change nav voice over main sound?

    Hi,

I stumbled on this month-old thread yesterday via Google, looking for a fix for this exact same issue as I've just upgraded from iGO8 to Primo on my 2din all-in-one head unit.

In iGO 8, all we had to do to resolve this was turn off the "Key Sounds" & everything worked correctly, but obviously this doesn't work in Primo. Well, it does mute the key sounds, but the radio still cuts out to play the "muted" key sound.
    Very frustrating indeed.

With my very limited knowledge, I went looking through & comparing config files of both iGO 8 & Primo to see if anything stood out . I think I've found it.

sunnyl, I assume all you wanted to do was stop the background system ie: radio from muting when touching the screen, & you still wanted all other alerts & voice guidance to continue working (providing the master volume wasn't muted)

    Good news......sort of
I believe I have resolved this issue, pending a road test to see if my speed camera & other alerts work correctly.
Testing late last night in my garage, radio no longer mutes when touching screen, voice guidance (in simulation) still works correctly (fades radio in & out when giving voice instructions)
If I mute the volume, voice instructions mute, but the radio continues as normal & doesn't cut out where voice instructions would usually sound (approaching turns etc)

So far so good, like I said, pending a road test.
If the alerts don't work correctly I have a couple of other things to try.
My wife drives this car & I have very little time after work so I may not be able to test the camera alerts until the weekend, but it's looking promising.

    Fingers crossed.

    Dennis.

I await the results with baited breath...
Mine was slightly different in that the radio faded at random times, even when I was stationary with no route planned. Would fade for a few seconds, then back again, then fade etc....Hope this fixes this too.

I haven't seen that issue (so far)
I only upgraded to Primo a couple of days ago & have spent those days researching & trying to solve the issues!

OK. I have stopped the radio dropping out on screen touch by adding the following code to the system.ini file located in the "save" folder.

    Code:
    [sound]
    sound_muted="1"
Now I'm onto the next issue which is the radio dropping out in alert areas (speed cameras etc)

Currently, the radio still drops out to announce the alert whether the Nav sound is muted or not.

    Try 1 or 0?

    [sound]
    use_os_volume=0

    Hi bazzle,

I downloaded May 2011 version from another of your posts & the sound issue is resloved.
Although it's iGO 9 with a iGO 8 splash screen not Primo. :?

Having another issue with TTS though, it seems to cut off the first part of the instruction occasionally.
Other than that, so far so good.

I will load up Primo again & try the command you suggested but from memory I've already tried that one.

    Regards,
    Dennis.
