Hi Guys - I am new to this forum & would appreciate your help.
I recently bought a chinese car DVD unit. Came with old iGo 8.0 maps so replaced them with 8.3 (Sensis Q4 2012 maps from this site). Everything works fine except:
1. The street names are not pronounced by the lady (it just says turn right/left etc.,). & also it doesn't have Australian speaking lady (only UK).How do I get these two features?
2. I have also downloaded latest primo maps on separate SDcard. All works fine again but it loses signal every few seconds. No signal is lost if I just use iGo maps without primo version.
Any help would be great !
Thanks
Shal

I will try this & let you know how I go.

Tried your maps but GPS can't even get signal now. previous primo was atleast getting/losing signal. This one just says "autodetecting GPS signal" & nothing happens. Not sure how to change this?
Also, your maps are exactly the same as my current maps (same content & size).
If I put back the iGo 8.3 maps, everything works fine with no signal issues (except that I want spoken street names in this version but it doesn't have).
Any ideas? Thanks
Rename save directory and try again. My baud and port will of been saved in sys.ini under profiles\01
Same in sys.txt. Check to see if Baud and port in there. If so make same as yours.

Have a nice day
[GPS]
port=4
baud=57600
Those settings might get solid/stable GPS fixes.

Thanks Bazzle - Bit confused so help clarify pls:
1. There's nothing under Save folder in my version of primo (its empty). There's though primo\sys.txt file. Your sis file is same as mine it appears.
2. In your version, you do have primo\save\profiles\01\ folder but only system.ini file exists in here. I can't find sys.txt.
My question:
If we just go with your version. Where do I change the baud rate (which file) & what do I change to to get the signal?
Thanks
Thanks for that but where do I change these settings? (primo\sys.txt??) If so, I see these entried in my sys.txt:
[gps]
baud=auto
port=auto
[tmc]
;source="GNSPORT"
;port="COM,"
;baud="14400"
show_tmc="0"
port="com,3"
baud="38400 "
Where do I change to play with GPS signal settings?
Thanks
Update from my side:
- Changed system.ini under profiles\01\ folder with:
Baud = 38400
Port= 2
Since this change, GPS no longer says "auto detecting signal" & it does find my location however:
- If I drive for 1 KM, it says "re-calculating route" every few seconds so looks like losing GPS signal.
Have I changed the above settings in correct folder or should I have changed it in sys.txt directly under Primo folder?
Also, what other settings can I try & in which folder/file.
Thanks heaps
Delete in save directory.
In sys.txt example above where it says 'auto' add your port and baud rate.
Try 9600 and 2
If that doesnt work try 9600 and 4 etc
Have a nice day
Hi Bazzle
I have tried various settings with no luck so far. Things I have tried:
- Deleted 'save' folder to let it re-create. No change.
- Changed baud/port settings both in sys.txt (under root folder) & system.ini (under save\profiles\01\ folder) to different combinations (Ex: 4800/9600/42600/56000 with port 2,3,4).
- Also ran GPSscan software which tells me that my unit port is 2 & baud is 4800.
My observations from above tests are:
- If I have baud/port as 4800/2 or anything above 4800, my GPS gets signal. If I change port to other than 2, it just says "auto detecting GPS" so I guess 2 is my port. While GPS finds signal on 4800 or 9600 or 13800 on port 2, as soon as I start driving, it keeps saying "re-calculating route" so looks like its losing signal. I do see between 3 to 10 satellite signals when first connected.
- If I find settings from my old iGo8 software (which works fine except few hiccups), it is currently auto-detected to 38400/port 2 & works fine. I tried to replicate these settings in Primo but find signal and then says "re-calculating" as you start driving. I have changed both sys.txt & system.ini files with the above ports but still loses signal after initially finding it.
I have also attached a pic of my initial satellite signal I get when GPS starts which shows 10 sat found. But signal bar is only 1 (in red on top left corner in the pic)
Assuming I have changed the above baud/port combination is right files, what else could be the issue?
- If my port is 2, can i still try with port 4 or 5 or stick to 2?
- What other things can I try (as I mentioned before, iGo 8 works fine with no signal issues on port 2/38400 baud)
- If you need any further info, please let me know.
Please help.
Thanks
Shal

Hey Shal,
Just thinking out loud here, you wouldn't by any chance have a navigation destination set when you start driving?
Possibly it's actually still connected & not losing signal & the showing of "re-calculating route" means it's picked up you're moving & is recalculating to the destination as you move.
That icon on the top left of your pic I think might be the battery level indicator.
That might be wrong, but just a thought.
Cheers
Satelites are better than normal ??
Signal bar as sstated is battery.
Nor required.

Thanks Jma - But I did actually set several diff. destinations & ended up driving to some of them for over 1 Km. The "re-calculating route" actually comes up every few seconds even while I am driving on straight road in the same direction as indicated by GPS. I wouldn't have thought it would do so many re-calculations every few seconds if I am not changing its suggested route.
Hi Bazzle - Sorry misunderstood icons. The satellite signals vary (flickers between 3 & 10 so its not static).
- What else can I try? - Do you need my sys/system files for review?
- Alternatively, should I try older version of primo that's known to work? If so, please let me know where I can download it from including latest Oz maps?
Shal
Run a tool like GPSTest (google for it) to see how GPS-module really works. If again only 3 satellites found, try to re-set the GPS-module - if OEM has foreseen this possibility on your device; if not then (if it's a SiRF chip) run SiRFTech utility (google for it) to re-set the GPS-module.

Where is the aerial lead? Try moving to a diff place.

My IGO8 did that until I changed a setting, something to do with Route Recalculation I think, don't have it with me so can't check what it was.
Whatever I changed stopped it appearing all the time.
Not sure if Primo has that or not, haven't used it much.
Looks like it has similar, maybe try the "Detour" button?
"You can also set the minimum delay that triggers route recalculation,
and you can instruct the application if you want to confirm every
recalculation."
From page 73 of the Primo Manual under 4.3.3 - Traffic Settings.

Thanks Everyone
Bazzle - Update from myside, I changed sys.txt & system.ini files with baud/port = 57600/2 & also added "caliberatefix=1" & drove for over 20 K. The satellites say "10 to 13 found". I am not losing signal as much as before but its still happenning. Keeps saying "re-calculating route" even on straight freeway with no turns. Also says "speed is 50 slow down, while actual speed on freeway is 100" but that's not a concern.
- The antenna is located just underneath rego sticker. As stated previously, iGO 8 works fine with no signal issues. Its only when I put Primo back again. I wish primo had the same option as iGo 8 where user can set GPS signal from unit itself (where it auto detects GPS & tells baud/port no.).
My questions:
1. The above GPS signal fix says its for smartphone/pda's only. Can i still run it?
2. Should I try going down or up on baud rate?
3. Is there an old version (2.0) of Primo you can send so I can try that please?
jwoegerbauer - Mine says ARM and processor type is samsung. Signal issue is only with primo version NOT iGO with same setup. I will try GPSTest. FYI, here's my unit (Eonon D5120A)
Jma - I will play with those settings if I can find them. Thanks.
Guys - If anyone have older version of primo (2.0 or something), happy to try it to see if that fixes the issue?
