How to root Huawei Sonic / U8650

I have tried all kinds of methods on my newly acquired Huawei U8180 like Androot, SuperOneClick, gingerbreak etc with no success. This looks like my last resort, in case i brick my prized phone i 've saved for a long time, i will come for you guys. Phones don't come cheap here in Uganda (Africa)

should I unzip it first in my SD or should I paste it as downloaded???

I've tried to apply the update.zip file provided but it has failed, here is the message i get

..
E:failed to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted

Does any one know what this means.

First thing to try is to download the file again. Might be a corrupted download, it happens way too often.

As I said in the first post, use at YOUR OWN risk. If you can barely afford the phone, dont mess with it. Thats your problem , not ours.

Sry for the double post but I keeps giving me the "signature verification failed" error... i downloaded it several times, keeps giving the same error. Oh and if i get it on, my warranty will be disclaimed?

May some one please upload update.zip on a different site, Megaupload doesn't seem to work properly here.

Hi guys,
I am in Europe (sweden) and have the Huawei Sonic 8650. I read about rooting this specific phone in this thread and see that it has worked for the most of you.

But the update.zip does not work for me.

Is there a specific update.zip for European phones ? or could you perhaps make one ?

The error message I get is:

"Failed to verify whole-file signature.
Signature verification failed.
Installation aborted."

I have tried several downloads, but it always errors and aborts the install.

Appreciate the hard work.

Obviously U8180 is not the same as U8650 which is an Australian version. Look for files designed for your phone.

Has anyone tried overclocking it and tell us what is the maximum that you can go without burning the inside components. Also before i root my phone has anyone staffed up their phone yet (on this forum)

EDIT: I could not overclock i hear that some kenels do not allow you to overclock so does anuone know of any working custom kernel that works with the sonic in Australia?
