Default How to root Huawei Sonic / U8650

I had to go through a bit of trial and error to do this, so I thought I would post up how to do it very easily. Several methods dont work at all due to Gingerbread version.

Stolen from another link, reasons to root your phone

I have sucessfully done this on my own phone, however do it at your own risk

    1. Dowload this file

    2. Transfer it on to your SD Card - dont unzip it

    3. Turn your phone off. When turning it back on, hold the volume up botton and power button together for a few seconds. This will boot it in to recovery mode. You will see this on the screen, if it didnt happen, turn your phone off, remove the battery, replace it, and do it again.

    4. In the menu, select update from SD card. I had to use my volume buttons for selection and power button to select it on the screen.

    5. Follow the progress on the screen. Reboot your phone and its done.

As rooting voids the phone warranty it's a good idea to have ability to go back to original ROM. is the original Sonic ROM. The instruction can be found at xda-developers forum.

There are no guarantees in life. I have posted the above method because I tested it on my own phone and can confirm it works. There are a number of other methods which DO NOT work....Gingerbreak being one.

I have set down these instructions to make it as easy as possible for members to root their phone.

You asked the same question multiple times at xda forum and the reply was - WHY DO YOU WANT TO DO IT?

Slow phone could be due to other problems. Do factory restore first. My phone is very fast and smooth, the same as other people are reporting.

Yes, same with the custom rom...

P.S. Just sync with your gmail account and everything will go back (unless you have 3d party apps)

If you root it first (see step 1) you can get Titanium Backup, which will back up all the apps, and their system data (the second part is the important part). It works okay but if you are doing custom roms then you may get issues with the new rom being loaded.

As for internal memory being low...... welcome to the world of cheap phones, its an area they skimp on and it hurts them. Transfer as many apps to the sd card as you can, and then clear out any cache files (for browser) and you might get some room back. Oh delete any apps you do not use (I'm thankful my internal memory is 8Gb, but its sitting at 5GB full).

Oh you will get a performance hit transferring apps to SD card but its the only way.
Coding in C is like sending a 3 year old to do groceries. You gotta tell them exactly what you want or you'll end up with a cupboard full of pop tarts and pancake mix.

The Standard rom has the option to move installed apps to your SD card this will free up heaps of internal memory....

Go into settings and then applications then manage applications to get to the option (Off the top of my head)

Worked like a charm. Preserved all data. Quick. Painless.
Thank you Sanity for finding this.
