How to find out where your phone really was manufactured?
Each phone has an unique international mobile equipment identity (IMEI) code. It's a 15-digits number you get shown by pressing the following on your mobile: *#06#
Old IMEI Structure (valid prior 01/01/2003)
Bits 0-5 : old TAC (type approval code)
Bits 6-7 : FAC (factory allocation code)
Bits 8-14 : Serial number
New IMEI Structure (valid since 01/01/2003)
Bits 0-7 : new TAC (type allocation code)
Bits 8-14 : Serial number
With 01/01/2003 the FAC code was removed from the structure with the 6 digit TAC becoming an 8 digit TAC.
Before 01/01/2003 the sequence of seventh & eighth digits represented the country code where phone was assembled/manufactured.
Since the IMEI code changed with 01/01/2003 it's obviously no longer possible to find out phone's production plant.
Have done intensive Google-search. No success.
Does anybody here know how to find out the country code where phone was assembled/manufactured?
Any hint appreciated.

Yes, you could try to look on inside your phone. But unfortunately it's printed inside the phone and the battery needs to be removed to see that. I am not asking for that effortOriginally Posted by jok11n
