Default Don't You Forget About Me (2009) [Doco]

I like Film and Television, like the masses I guess. Knowing who directed what, who wrote what is were I fall short.

So when a doco comes about with the words "", I shrug my shoulders, until you then read about all the classic 80's films he created.

"He scripted some of the most successful films of the 1980s and early 1990s, including National Lampoon's Vacation, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Weird Science, The Breakfast Club, Some Kind of Wonderful, Sixteen Candles, Pretty in Pink, Planes, Trains and Automobiles, Uncle Buck, Career Opportunities, 101 Dalmatians, Home Alone, and its sequels, Home Alone 2 and Home Alone 3."

and chances are no matter what age you are you have seen at least a 1/2 dozen of them.

Really interesting to hear from those actors that appeared in those films, I liked the jaded outlook on hollywood and how it has now become a "biggest bang for a buck" industry.

Worth a look at, if you have the time.

Not direct linked as its eff this eff that. you cut and paste it

I'm also going to say that "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" is a brilliant movie and well worth watching. For me I see it as one of those movies you can watch again and again unlike todays rubbish.

The ONLY thing you might get out of it is the Actors and history of the films (off which I am sure you know all to well about anyway), as the actual doco whilst very watch-able is ummmm flawed in many ways...

Imagine a film fan of which their are 5?? (in film school) semi obsessed with a writer/director and trying to hunt him down and how they go about it. I found it innocent but then again it is not something I would do.

For the rest of us, its ok and worth a look at. if nothing better is on offer.

That is, I enjoyed Molly Ringwolds comments, and Alleys comments and Judds comments and like him or not Kevin smith's takes on things, plus people in the trade and how they see things. example, seems that the consensus is that if they tried to make The Breakfast club in today's terms. It would get canned before it even hit a studio forgot to mention Mia Sara, what guy never had the hots for her in the day!

What is the name of those famous (infamous) film reviewers, erbert and someone or other..... had to laugh as they show "The Other" bagging Ferris Buellers Day off, on release.. ironically now he has personalised plates of said film

I actually read one of the comments on IMDB (which I rarely do) and I think from a doco making point of view that summed it up nicely. (I think reviewer was overly critical personally)

nevertheless, as always happy to send whatever whenever

Well this is a mixed bag. The interviews with the folk from Hughes' films and other luminaries are great but the parts where we follow the film makers chasing an interview with Hughes are, well, shit. Interesting how the film makers say at the start that they originally had an idea about making a movie about a film crew chasing an interview with Hughes would be lame so they decided to make a doco about it instead. Well, actually guys, making a doco about it is no less lame! These sections are overly gushy and, with exception of the girl who seems to be the only one among them who has any grounding in reality, they have no idea of the effect of a bunch overtly enthusiastic young film makers turning up on the doorstep of a guy who clearly values his privacy. I guess it's just youthful ignorance but it's painful to watch. In any case, they make the mistake of making a movie about themselves rather than their subject.

The interviews they get are great, though. In fact, they're so good that you have to wonder whether they actually conducted them or whether they were drawn from other sources. Regardless, it would have been a better film if they had merely explained up front that they weren't able to get the Hughes interview (which is obvious from the start anyway) and then present what they did have. This is essentially what happened with Shadow of the Moon and it was still interesting, even though it was conspicuously missing the central interview with Neil Armstrong.

    7 out of 10.
