hey guys
Just want to throw some ideas around to see whats best for my situation.

basically
ive got a phone line comming into the my place for phone/adsl

the line gets split(ive just piggy backed it) one of them goes about 30ms gets filtered and goes to a phone.

the other split goes to my adsl modem about 1 m from the split

i was reading a fair bit this afternoon and i kind of sussed out that it was bad to run a long extension then filter it right at the end for the phone. Something that the signals go down the long split as well and get reflected before the filter, causing interference.

Hopefully all that makes sense....

Would i be better installing a central filter? where ive split the phoneline?

im hoping for faster speeds...

Use a central filter at point of entry and if you can run a line direct to the modem

Central filters have superior isolation and filtering over in-line types.

They provide the optimum level of performance.

Will you see a difference?... that depends on a lot of factors about the standard of your current cabling. It will give you the best possible result though.

thats one i have installed and then had a brand new cable run from there to my office for the adsl modem and performance was far better

the Line Attenuation went from very high 20's down to stable 20 giving me a rock solid connection no drop outs what so ever with my dynalink RTA1025W and i do a lot of BT and a few other things and runs smooth as maxing out a 8000-384 connection

hey guys
another quick question
with a central splitter does it have to be as close to the box on the side of the house has possible?
Ive got a line going from the box on the side of house to the middle of the house where its split one goes into the pabx (filtered) and the other into the ADSL modem. Is it okay to install at the middle of the house? or should it go near the side of the house thats got the telco box for max performance.

okay installed the central line filter at the entry point,

my findings....

did it improve anything? no....

also replaced my tplink modem with a dynalink modem any benefit? nada... worse speeds/snr/att.... not by much but still not as good as my tp link unit.


keeping in mind that i live about 3.5-4km away from the exchange
and my house and all wiring is fairly new

i dont think the central line filter or new modem had any benefit.


i think the effectiveness is on a case by case basis, im sure central line filters would help in some situations but not mine.

was a good exercise and i learnt a fair bit.
