I dont have foxtel or any alarms or fax. Exetel did change my profile to a more stable one as to eliminate the noise. But still max speed i get is 500kb. Exetel want to charge me $220 for someone to come out and have a look if they dont find anything wrong i pay the money if they do they fix it at no cost. Wonder which way the tech will go??

![]() | Firstly don't bother with an ADSL 2 filter because they ar exactly the same as an ADSL filter. Think about it, the phone line goes in and is split into a low pass (for the phone) and a High pass (for the ADSL ). So there is no gain to be had. What may be happening is that your ISP may be shaping your torrenting, some ISP's deliberately limit the available bandwidth on torrents. Do an upload and download speed test (if you do a google search you will find several good speed tests). Check the download speed tests against the connect speed as indicated in your modems WAN status. Remember that your download WAN status speed needs to be divided by 8 to get the download speed in bytes per second, and you will also lose a little bit due to the overhead required for ADSL 2 signaling protocols.

![]() | funny, I have an ADSL and an ADSL 2+ filter here and have tested them both on a network analyser and the high and low pass characteristics are virtually identical (allowing for component tolerances).

| Premium Member | I reckon it's the modem. Check that you have the latest firmware. I installed one of those crappy TPLINK modems at my unit in Newtown and had all sorts of speed issues until I updated the firmware to the one specified for Aus. Now it's reasonable. Hate these TPlink modems, bloody awful setup, buggy all over.

Just had my nacked line account activated today and from the modem configuration ADSL menu I have download speed 21337kb/s and u/l speed is 641kb/s. Running speedtest.net shows 15000 and 550 kb/s. I am a bit concerned with upload speed being so low. Should I expect higher speed there and which settings to be changed in the modem to improve it?

| Member | according to the campbelltown to ruse via google maps which is a pretty stright line I am 4.7km from the exchange. I only get average 200kb/sec 2mbps, and very rare but I can get a max of 300kb/sec 3mbps from a good http server. Would it be best to go with a ADSL1 8mbps setup? as even with the ADSL 1.5mbps I am getting my current speeds (150kb/sec constant on torrents) Does anyone know if it would make a difference if I switched from Exetels ADSL2 to Internodes ADSL2+ Extreme? Exetel let me down with their latest support desaster with it taking them 3 weeks to get a tech out to fix the line and 4 times of reporting the problem to actually get them to do something. |
