| Premium Member | There isn't really anything you can do with the cable. Im sure that your cable is probably fine, but it just may not be the correct one for that particular card. You might have to contact Alloy support and see if they can give you the details as to cables it supports etc.

![]() | Well, if I am reading the Alloy site correctly, the 1440SCB is a multimode card. And the patch cable site seems to indicate it is a multimode fibre, although it does mention single mode in the same table. You could try to loop the card back on itself just to see what happens. I am still thinking you should see red from the TX socket on each card. I just went down and had a look at a few of my fibre capable boxes, I can see the TX signal easily.

![]() | humm.. Still no light coming from cards. Did try and loop it back but nothing happend. do you think it is possible its just a single mode fiber im using and wont work if the cards trying to tx in multi? or that the fiber is too small. I put a light in the ends and could see a bit of it coming out other end. it is a yellow cable with green plugs. |

![]() | Yellow is supposed to be single mode, so yes is is possible the laser emitter will not align. Where are you Astro? I've got a short SC MM (orange) patch I could send you to try...

![]() | Well, the ones I have are visible, thats on recent Cisco switches ,a Dell Fibre switch and some other assorted bits and pieces. But I guess Alloy could use non-visible. I cannot remember looking at a SM link... Let us know how the MM cable pans out.

![]() | Thanks for everyones input ! Today I got a multimode cable and it worked straight away, so it wasn't the cards and from what i can see there is still no light coming from the cards when i try to tx data but they do work. This only issue now is the speeds, I'm not getting what i thought i would have which I think is due to the hardware inside the pc running a bit slow. ![]() |

| Premium Member | edit info FYI The fibre shown on the website is single mode. What colour is your patchlead? Generic colours for fibre are : orange 62.5 um multimode aqua 50 um multimode yellow 9 um singlemode but you can order leads in any colour you wish. General connector colour: Green = single mode angle polish (no good for you) blue = (usually single mode but can be multimode) beige = multimode connector check the writing on the cable every meter. You need a 62.5/125 um (OM1) multimode or a 50/125 um (OM3) multimode lead. If it has 9/125 um it is single mode an will not work. Regards ktm200 Last edited by ktm200 : 09-03-08 at 12:06 PM. | Junior Member | fyi looking into fibre ports on cards an patch racks is not a smart idea most cards emit light in the non visible specturm ie infared some mostally singlemode but some multimode use laser emitters at 850 to 1560nm and is like looking into a laser pointer but u cant see the light chears mat |
