Default Networking question wireless- adsl - notebook

My main computer is a desktop running XP, connect by cable to a netcomm NB1300PLUS4 adsl modem. My son has a laptop with wireless. Now the problem, how can I stop him getting access to the modem directly but allow him access through our home network so I can control his access and maybe even a download limit?? any help appreciated.

Methinks you would have to disable the wireless radio on the router, put a wireless access point on your pc and enable ICS on the desktop pc. That way all access would be through your PC and not through the router directly.

Look at some third party software for bandwidth quota/limiting....

Good luck!

Wether it's wireless or cabled you would be both going out by way of your modem, unless he is latching onto the neighbours wireless network of course.

You might have alook at the options within the modem, not sure on the netcomm but it might have some firewall/filter options that you might be able to use.
In my case I turned of DHCP & set up all the computers with fixed IP address so I know what computer is on what address then when 1 gives me the shits I just block the IP address for a while.

Cheers
