Default Optus wireless modem

Hi All,

Has anyone tried the optus wireless modem that they are advertising? If so whats it like? And can you buy a modem that will do the same thing as the optus one?

We got one into my company to trial. Its the USB one, although I haven't played with it yet. Is this the one you are talking about?

myf360f1,
OK, first impressions.
Small, very easy to use, no CD required as it comes wih the software and drivers onboard.
Coverage seems ok, suspect it may be a bit lacking in fringe areas. Appeared to drop back to GPRS speeds inside my building. To be expected.

GUI is pretty good, shows usage patterns so you can keep an eye on your downloads.

Uses an Optus SIM, so I would say you could use it on a 3G phone and use the phone as a modem via Bluetooth etc. Haven't tried it yet.
Some pretty good deals on at the moment (4 months free on 24 month contract).

Hi bit_pit,

Thanks for the info, you said it has a sim card, is that inside the dongle?

Cheers

Yup, little slide out draw.
There is a 04xxxxxxxx number with it as well, hence I think it is just a standard Optus 3G Sim.

Hi Hikaru,

Can you purchase the modem from other than a Telephony company?
