Networked Storage??

Have been looking at Networked Storage devices for some time, but the goal posts keep moving re: my needs.

Can anyone suggest a good Networked Storage device that would allow access to files not only from other computers but also the Mediagate (not so hard) and the Sony PS3 (maybe a lot harder, as i understand it will only find Windows Media Servers ie: WMP11 or Tversity or Nero 8, all of which need to running on a PC)

To my way of thinking this would mean building a decicated server (at least you could add more HDD this way). Just wondering if people had any suggestions or if they indeed suffer the same problem as me?
