Final update guys, I finally got a hold of Linksys support and after 1.5 hours on the phone the decison is the expander has compatability issues with my router.

So the moral of the story is to do some research on your proposed units. Funny thing is it will work with no security applied but it falls over when encryption is applied.

I have decided not waste any more time on this and will upgrade as soon as funds allow.

Alright just to prove I'm not an overly vindictive Bastard, Linksys support called me late this afternoon to try something else. To cut the story short, WPA encryption was conflicting with my expander so they tried some different settings and eventually they managed to install WEP encryption, and got the whole thing to work.

So I retract my coments about Linksys support, I thought we had all agreed that the problem could not be resolved, But they had other ideas, they spoke to some senior geek and decided to give his ideas a go. Result is it works.

My only comment about their support is that they are all Amercians and their accents are very strong so it made listening to them difficult. Wish I knew where there support team is based, I suspect the States.

JFYI WEP encryption is almost useless. Honestly it take me less time to crack into a WEP system then it does to type in a 128 bit hex key.
