![]() | That really surprises me. Can you give me the model number of this modem? I'm sure you will get an answer and even a walk thru here DSL Hardware - Whirlpool Broadband Forums |

| Junior Member | Never say no ![]() I just set up a ipstar 2 way sat as a routed service on the weekend for my inlaws in the bush. I used a fedora linux box (little epia machine) but if you are using windows it can be done. Firstly you can't be running any firewalling software like Nortons, or other 3rd party firewalling software as it will upset ICS. Because it's USB, I personally wouldn't use it. Does it have an Ethernet port on the modem? If so use a Linux box (like the smoothwall sugestion) as it's faster and more secure. edit: just noticed there isn't a Ethernet port on that modem..... If not, make sure you only have 1 network card in the windows box routing machine, and from there go into a hub / switch and off to your other PCs. The NAPT routing you are trying to do will make all of the requests from the local PC's look like they are coming from only one PC so your ISP won't know that you have multiple machines. Sat(via USB) -> Windows Box using ICS -> Ethernet Card -> Hub -> Lots of PCs From here ICS will set up your only network card as 192.168.0.1 and become a DHCP server. All of your other computers on the HUB will get thier IP's from this server and should work fine. You won't need crossover cables and other stuff unless you don't have a HUB and only won't one other PC networked. The biggest single problem I find with home networks people set up is that they set static IP addresses for all the machines and either get the subnet wrong or don't put in a gateway address. Just put it in Auto and let the DHCP server assign you everything you need! It also proves the DHCP server is running and that you haven't got a mysterious windows illness in your PC. Does this help at all? I hope it didn't confuse you further Cheers Bj |

| Senior Member | i have set up a couple of other sat net connection sharing networks, one a activ8me via ipstar and the other a telstra via a dw6000, both have ethernet and are very simple to do as it always alocates the modem 192.168.0.1 and as long as ever otehr pc has a unique address within that range it will connect no worries. this one, which just had to be mine, on the other hand simply will not share the connection no matter what, well, not using the windows box, i was looking into setting up a server but my otehr box is dead, but am on the lookout for a working one that someone is chucking, which does happen so fingers crossed. thx for your input. |

![]() | ICS should really just work.... Try it one more time. Goto Start -> Run -> and type in NETSETUP & press enter & then follow the prompts. If all else fails, try this - proxy by analogX -> Network Downloads : Proxy /// AnalogX |

| Member | How did we go?? Working yet? I don't think I read throughout your posts, but what version of Windows are you using on the PC with the modem?? The reason I ask is because if it is Win98, you will NOT be able to share your connection with a WinXP or Vista PC Cheers and Goodluck!! |
