3rd Party Box for Austar Digital

Hi Lads,

Have been reading up and searching high and wide but could not get a definitive answer for what I need. I was originally looking at card sharing my current austar digital service, but it seems that this is not possible. So I am now wondering if i can set up a 3rd party decoder in my room and just take the smart card from the lounge and put it into my 3rd party box (dreambox) and watch the austar? I have a smart card that is red with austar written on the top and the bottom has irdeto written on it. Any help is much appreciated. From what ive heard austar digital uses irdeto 2 encyption and foxtel uses the uncrackable nds. Would this mean that austar can still be run on 3rd party boxes?

got some bad news for you buddy not able to use there card in third party boxes anymore since April they made changes so that people using other boxes are unable to now

As Puca mentioned , you can no longer do anything with Austar cards. They will no longer work in third party receivers as of a couple of months ago.

tell austar to stick their service and go selecttv, which will run on any pvr/sat box.

rob I would sure as hell do that if I didnt need fox sports to get my weekly EPL fix. I think its ludicrous as a paying subscriber that I cant just buy a 3rd party box to run my card on. The AV sender is a piece of shit and I cant hack it anymore. Reckon there will be a fix for this in the near future at all? Cheers lads.

I used to run my mediastar box with a legit austar card until they changed encryption, I gave them the option of making their card work in my box or shove their service, they chose the latter.
I would not hold my breath for a fix, but you never know.

Jav_au , this has only happened in recent months though Austar has married cards and their receivers for quite some time. I probably wouldnt bank on a fix as Austar seem obsessed with making sure their cards are only used how they want them used.

This is another reason why Austar subscribers are getting a relo in the city to get another Foxtel receiver and card installed for an extra $20 a month and splitting the bill with them. Foxtel NDS cards can be used in a third party Dreambox or Octagon receiver.
