| Premium Member | Sometime ago I stumble onto this forum and was fascinated by the 'satellite' threads. So i slowly got into this hobby. My first step was read and join forum like this. I downloaded so much info and programs, I am now sorting them. My next step was I bought a DM500 from jaffa and a subscription with Selectv. I now have a satellite system I can play with. Klona's dreambox guide was very informative and helpful and together with joffa's help setting up the DM500 was not so hard. Then I bought a Jaycar MKII programmer and assembled it. Now, next step is to play with this thing. I'm taking my time reading information and threads in forums like this. It can be very confusing but half of the fun is in the process of eliminating the rubbish from the correct and factual info. I must say I am hooked into this hobby now. I'll see how deep will I be into it before my missus will be asking to have another baby. |

| Premium Member | Thank you guys for the warm welcome. With help from established members of this forum my learning curve won't be as steep as it would be.. so thank you again in advance. Been reading up with card sharing and just found read that Selectv sub card may not let card sharing work. I'll read up some more and maybe I'' experiment on other card like the Foxtl when my 3months free with Select is finished. More reading to do. Anybody knows a good proggy to start with? |

| Premium Member | Welcome to the hobby called satellite, make sure you put some money aside as it can get expensive at times and as asci said ...Dont let the missus know how much it all costs otherwise you will be taking up a new hobby. A good program to start your sharing when you get your foxtel card would be NewCS1.62....there have been countless discussions on this and other forums on how to set it all up. Good luck. |

| Premium Member | Thanks Crypto! I just purchased another DM500s from jaffa and started playing with the Card sharing. I downloaded NewCS 1.62 and experimented with it today. So far so good. I got my computer and JCar card reader to talk to each other. It was a blast to see the subcard information on the screen. Next step is to connect the dreambox and see if I can get a pic. Have to do More reading ..... |

Tell me about it ![]() DM500s $150 Phoenix $40 Octagon SF918HD x 2 $1120 Dual Ku LNB $50 90cm Dish $70 plus priceless information on this site, and that's just the beginning. But I find the self satisfaction achieved far outweighs the cost.

Exactly, a very good point there. The information shared in this forum is priceless. Without it many of us would not have even attempted some of the things we play with. Knowing and learning what your doing is far more satisfying than handing over a fist of dollars to get a job done. It reminds me why premium membership is so worth while, even if you never use it, its nice to give something back. ![]()

| Premium Member | I now have two DM500s and downloaded Newcs 1.62 and running. I started playing with cardsharing by setting up both DM500s to connect to the computer network using the latest CCCam. Both DM have same config file as I copied one and paste it to the other and change their name to Dream1 and Dream2 and the IP addresses respectively in the setup in both CCCam and Newcs. However, when I fired up the boxes I noticed that one of the DM500s is not getting any pic while the other is, how strange. I swapped the name (Dream1 to Dream 2 and Dream2 to Dream1). Still the same box gets no picture. So it must be the box itself. I'll re-flash this box and see what happen. I'll even use the backup image of the box that is working. This is interesting. Anybody had this expeirience? I'll report back and let you know what happened. |

Did you get the DM500's from the same source? They may have the same mac addresses. Do a search in the Dreambox forum as there is a proceedure to change one. Leroy

| Premium Member | To check MAC problem connect one box at a time to the network and run the command ifconfig -a Note the Ethernet HWAddr. If they are the same then create an init file (no extension) in var/etc Contents of init #!/bin/sh ifconfig eth0 hw ether 00:09:34:00:00:05 ifconfig eth0 192.168.1.25 up |

Thanks Leroy! I manage to make both boxes work. I re-flashed the box that did not want to work and after an hour and setting up the box from scratch the box now does cs. It looked as if there was a problem in the firmware installation. Happy! I can watch different channels on one sub-card (tfc-sub card) althoug it is limited to only 4 channels. Tried to cs selectv but it keep freezing as discussed in another thread, thought I should at least try. Now to experiment with cs over the internet. It is getting really fun.
