Default NewCS on Windows - n00b

Right, so I got myself a Jaycar MKII, which i'll build this week... perhaps a daft question, but I want to be certain.

To log and get updates, the PC that's connected to the card reader has to have a DVB-s card attached to it?

Don't think so.

You can log from anywhere that has a tcp connection to your dream's log port.

To get updates,... more information required as there's been various discussions and tools around to do various forms of updating.

P.S. You might also find that, depending upon the version of newcs you're gonna run under Windows, it may be a no go,.. there's info on various attempts in a thread somewhere.

Jim.....

further to this....

if I'm using the dreambox to do the DVB bit and have the card reader connected to the PC, which bit does the CPU work?

ND$ is quite processor intensive, so I want to make sure I do it right

anyone for my last question?

also, can the same port and login info be used for more than one box? i seem to be having issues since hooking my other DM into NewCS on my first box.

why don't you run the card in one of your DM500's and then share to the other?
I don't understanf your question 'which bit does the cpu work'
Use one login per box.

Leroy

the card is in my 7020

surely when it's NDS or any card, some CPU work has to be done, I understand that keeping up with NDS is quite CPU intensive, hence the occasional dropouts. I was hoping to avoid this by using MKII hooked into PC.

one login per box, thanks. Same port is fine?

thanks for the fast reply

Yep same port. I don't know how processor intensive sharing is but from reports your 7020 serving a few clients won't be an issue.
