You have taken the installation disk out of the cdrom prior to doing your reboot??

1st time boot to cd
format or partition hdd, install
you can leave 1st boot cd,2nd boot hd in the bios
when it reboots during install, it should boot to hd,as long as you dont hit the "hit any key to boot to cd" next time around.
provided you only have 1 hd, this should be fine,
otherwise,the hd is stuffed

i take it theres only 1 hdd?
boot to cd, when you see the hdd,partition, choose partition,make the hdd 90% odd of the hdd.
so make a partition (press c)
then do quick format ntfs (this should eliminate bad sectors on drive)
let it do install,reboot.
if this dont work,the hdd is stuffed.

All you did wrong was not remove the XP CD after your installation. Or you could have changed the boot sequence after install so it boots from your HDD instead of CD.

Not all BIOS ask you to hit a key to boot from CD. Some do it automatically as yours was doing.

Generally speaking, installing Windows XP, either Home or Professional, is a walk in the park. Guided by pretty colors, loading bars that beam back and forwards and constant Microsoft messages that reassure you that you have made a worth while purchase, which is Microsoft Windows XP.
