Default SP2 crashing

Sorry I cant elaborate too much on this, But a mate rang me this morning and asked me for some help with his XP machine. He told me that he installed SP2 now computer crashes. I dont know anything about his computer and I am at work and cant get there untill late tonight. Sorry to be so vague , but I am being sneaky at work and havent got too much time to do research.
Any help, much appreciated
Cheers

# Windows XP Intel microcode update (KB936357)
# Windows XP fix for error code 0xc0000005
# Windows XP fix for error code 0x80070002
# Windows XP fix for 'Stop 0x0000007E' error in aec.sys
# Windows XP fix for 'Stop c0000135' and winsrv errors
# Windows XP SP2 - Loopback patch KB884020

Download Windows patches, service packs and updates for Windows XP, Windows Vista and more.

think theres a sp2 crash fix in win updates somewhere.
could try these above.

From microsoft site

STOP 0x0000008e
STOP 0x00000050 PAGE_FAULT_IN_NON_PAGED_AREA
Additionally, if you troubleshoot by removing all unnecessary hardware devices that are installed on the computer, and then you run the Setup program, you may receive an error message that is similar to the following:
Setup cannot copy the file Setupdd.sys.

CAUSE
This behavior may occur if one of the following conditions is true:
• One or more of the random access memory (RAM) modules that are installed on your computer are faulty.
• The RAM configuration is incompatible with Windows XP.

Get the hard drive out, connect to a working system and back it up. Then do a clean install.
