Default Windows XP Update Failure

I have a problem with windows XP Pro.
When I log on to the internet I get a message that there are updates for XP.
when I install them I get a message that updating FAILED and the 10 updates could not be installed.
I reinstalled windows XP and still have the same problem.
Is there any way to fix it, as is damm annoying every time i turn the computer on

Update via service packs and turn off auto updates, I have had this too, no idea why. Another way is to download updates direct and install yourself.

What errors are you getting?
Have a look in the Event Viewer it may give more details on what the problem is.
How did you reinstall XP? If it was a fresh install you would have lots of updates to install.

You can run Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer 2.0 Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer 2.0 and manually install updates, this will probably show the first update that has a problem and you may be able to see what the problem was. It could be an earlier failed update that needs to be done before the rest will update.

Linux Mandriva 2007 Spring uses an update that came out with a bug that gave similar reports to that . It was itself corrected by an update in 2008.

It is common that the core program is used by XP and by Linux and had the bug and they both used it. Check on update notes for XP and look for update messages

In Mandrakes case the programs had actually been updated , only the message was wrong. It is still quite common for this to happen

It says 75 secuirty updates are missing using microsoft baseline security analyzer

when AUTOMATIC updates starts the error message is "update failed to install

from memory its 1 or so updates causing this
if you can dl, go for the stand alone sp3 or sp2 exe pack from
The Software Patch - Download site for patches, upgrades, service packs and hardware drivers
sp3 beta will leave you with all of 2-3 updates to go
turn auto updates off in cp
wen u do do updastes,go manual and custom
