Default network copying and pasting

does anyone know if its possible to disable other people in your network from copying stuff from your shared folder
its 6:30 in the morning and im about to head off to work so theres no other computers on here at home to try it.

Don't think so, isn't that the idea of shared folders to allow people to see, and therefore by default copy stuff. You can stop them from changing and deleting though.

In xp if your using the guest account to share (or anotherone), just put a password on it.

there is a program out there that locks(password )
your own folders

Maybe the original poster needs to clarify what they're trying to achieve.

If they want to prevent access to files then, yes, it is possible within xp.

If he wants to provide access to them but prevent those same people from copying them, then, no, whatever you use, to my knowledge, won't provide that.

yep thats pretty much what i wanted, ill have to only share the folders when i watch something from the pc on the xbox myself.

I don't know how the xbox network thing works, but couldn't you just set a password for your share account on the pc (XP), and then provide these details to the xbox config file? This way your files will never be accessible to anyone else.

In XP there is an option to turn off the 'Use simple file sharing (Recommended)' option. This option can be found in Windows Explorer under [Tools] [Folder options...] [View] in the 'Advanced Settings:' list box (Right down the bottom). Turning off this option allows you to customise your permissions.
