Default Vista and Firefox/Thunderbird

Hello I bought a cheap Compaq Presario Lap Top with windows Vista Home Basic about a year ago and basicly I have had no problems after I did the tips and tricks turn off a heap of Vista features.About a month after I had it it just stopped so I loaded the system back on to it and set it up allover again I also use Thunderbird and Firefox and over the last few months I thought I was losing shortcuts and emails and then after a reboot I would get everything back all email and all shortcuts ect...........I now realize that it loads 2 different lots of thunderbird and Firefox although I am the only user and I cant switch users because I am the only one what is wrong and help.

Checked your installed programs , do you have 2 versions of each ?
I recall having 2 versions of Firefox on one of my PC's at some stage when I downloaded a newer version. The old one stayed for some reason.

No its more than that its like I have 2 different desk tops because the clock and date are in a different position on the computer when I get the different versions up.
