Default SmartWi

Is it necessary to upgrade the firmware on the SmartWi in Australia or are they good to go straight out of the box

And are there limits to what card they can handle

Thanks in advance

I'm sure someone posted a while back about using the latest firmware. I'd give that a go first before trying anything else.

Leroy,

I had a look around the forum via the search function before my post but haven't been able to find more than a few basic comments on the SmartWi

The unit comes with a special adapter to fit the european plug socket which made me think maybe the firmware is not suited to our systems but from what people have listed their running auroa and whitey on these units

I'll keep looking

Cheers

yeah, they do work straight out of the box. Read the instructions carefully. I had a few issues at 1st... being a bloke of course. But after referring to the instructions it worked immediately.

I got a new one resently as my original one was second hand to start with and I wanted more cards anyway. So I was ready to update the firmware as I had done periously but found it worked fine straight out of the box, although the cards have to be married correctly to the base unit to get going. As I recall there is specific firmware for the Oz system IR2. Also I have found the SmartWii forum, that is attached to thier web site, very helpful. I usually only run it with 3 slave cards but 5 is not problem as long as they are not all different transponders. Distance is the only problem, average size house, same floor, no problem room to room but first floor to ground floor, really poor.

Strange that you would have needed to change firmware, but if thats what it takes, happy viewing.

austars chuckie and spongebob and even 5.3 used to work in the smartwi with 2.33T1 and above before the change in april, but alas if u want austar or fox then your limited to whitey. Smartwi will not work with NDS and the makers have officially stated they will not make a firmware for NDS, it seems they were intimidated by a nasty letter they got from a NDS lawyer. Whitey, goldies and silvers also work but you have to reset the firmware and remarry the card to the master unit if it has a significantly different atr

thats the case when trying to go from an I1 goldie to a 5.3 whitey or vice versa but not when changing from a 4.1 to a 5.3. when my 5.3 whitey is in smartwi that was originally married to a 4.1 chuckie it works fine, i didnt have to remarry but if you look at the card details on a humax or toppy the 5.3 reports as 4.1

range is supposed to be about 9 m max indoors but mine works up to 14 m indoors without any problems

before the recent flooding i used to run 3 stbs no problems, no glitching, 1 client in a humax internal slot, 1 in a toppy/freecam and 1 in a zinwell 7000

But the best thing about the smartwi is whitey runs cool as cucumber in it! no card heat issues with smartwi
