Loader Error Code on VFD Display (List of error codes on boot screen):

0x11 Range (Downloading file is bigger than the arear reserved)

0x14 DataType (Not supporting data type)
0x15 XfdVer (Not supporting IRD version)
0x20 OtaTimeOut (While OTA, the Antenna line is disconnected)
0x21 OtaCrc32 Ota downloaded file crashed
0x70 Kernel File system error
0x71 rootfs Error
0x72 FS device (Device file system error )
0x80 FlashWriting ( Error During Flash writing)
0x81 EepromWriting
0x82 XfdmWriting (IRD Write ERROR )

The reason for this being posted is because mognite57 had an issue where his box wouldn't boot and was coming up with an error message. It couldn't be flashed via the USB so the firmware had to uploaded via the serial port.
You can use the Porter update tool which can be downloaded here
It's fairly straight forward to use and can get you outa da poop when all else fails!

Doing a little brainstorming today and i found out why i had to reload the firmware.What I had done was leave the USB stick in the box and over time all the timeshift data had maxed out the 2gig stick this was the root cause....Originally Posted by LeroyPatrol

You'll need a null modem cable and a PC with a serial port. Once you fire up the application, browse to your file, turn on box and send file to it.
If's fairly easy to drive.

Porter software did the job and I'm up and running again. What is the best combo of Firmware and plugin for 980 HD with using an Aurora card? Thanks.
The latest firmware and plugins can be found here.
What kind of Aurora card? Irdeto2 will work in the slot but a gold will need to be used with a cam.

The card version is Irdeto ACS V1.2. Has been working in the slot ok until this week, thats why I am changing Firmware to try and get it up and running again. Thanks for your help Leroy.
Do I load the firmware first then the Plugin bundle?

Load the firmware, do a System Restore to factory default. Do a format user data before you load the plugin. After it's loaded, go into the MCAS menu (high light MCAS plugin and press OK on remote) and go into the configuration menu and change the reset sequence to T14-T0

Just went through the exact same thing....err 0x71 during firmware update. Fortunately thanks to Leroy and the Porter Uploader all is saved...lucky I had a null modem cable and an old desktop PC with a serial port. Now to update my mcas...Anyone know where I can get porter update tool and instructions on how to use it? Just loading the latest firm

Only Windows. Have you tried another USB stick?

i had the same problem you had .but i not sure what usb cable to get as the pins on the serial port on the back of the ultraplus player are male pins. and the cables i have seen at ebay are male as well l so does that mean i have to buy a male to female converter ?

You need a null modem cable. It should come with the connectors with the correct gender to connect your PC serial port to the UltraPlus 980 serial port. I would load the firmware version that you were using with the Porter utility.
I would then load the new before loading firmware version 1.10.05

if i run this from my lap computer which has a video serial port with a female connecter on it. And then i buy a converter for the other end of the cable will that work to transferee the file to my ultraplus player
You need a null modem cable not a none modem cable.
It will require female DB9 connectors at each end not male.
You need to use a serial port on your PC or Laptop. If you don't have one you will need a USB to serial converter. Aten is a good brand.
There is no such thing as a video serial port. You are looking at the video output that will only connect to a monitor.

I've managed to get hold of a windows laptop and a usb to serial adapter cable for a few weeks so I will give it a go next week, Tried 3 different usb sticks but keep getting error code 0x13?
I'll report back if i have any troubles.
With the loader update obviously send that through first and then subsequently
the FAC file?, My first time doing this hopefully its straight forward.
