Default MythTv and sasc NG

Anyone had success with this combination on N*S ? I am having trouble getting mine to run smoothly. Keeps crashing on channel changes. If you have got it working what version of myth/sasc and did you use any patchs on it ?

Can't get mine to scan, from within Myth.

I've seen various guides, some stating to patch Myth others not referring to that at all.

I'm running Ubuntu Feisty,.. have managed to compile it and the loopback module. Have started it and managed to get it to log into a newcs server.

But when trying to initiate a scan it just sits there at about 50% signal - very similar behaviour to what I've had in the past when the tuner isn't powering up the LNB.

Enough for today. Will measure voltages, etc,.. tomorrow, first time I'm trying the card. The card is a SkyStar 2.

Am using:
Ubuntu 7.04
Myth straight from apt-get a while back v0.20.2-0
sasc-ng fron SVN a short time ago, v182 (with dvbloopback v117)

I think the card is registered properly looking at the details below:

Check your LNB settings (make sure there saved. Need to click finish)

And when you scan make sure you enter the freq in kHz not MHz. These are my notes.

Code:
Preset Custom
Type Universal (Voltage & Tone)
LOF Switch 1
LOF Low 10700
LOF High 10700

goto inputconnections->Scan for channels

source sat (no grabber)
Input my dvb-s card
Frequency 12398000
Pol H
Sym 27800000 <- have to enter in manually.
FEC 3/4
Inversion Auto

Thanks for that,.. I wasn't putting the frequency in right.

Seems I have to scan each transponder,.. is that right?

In any case, I still can't watch anything, even the freebie ones. The sasc-ng output indicates that it goes idle after a while of nothing from the Myth side.

Actually looking at your post again,.. I think I may have specified a grabber, even though I have no ePG data. Doubt that'll be effecting the no display though.

backend has to be started after sasc-ng

/etc/init.d/mythtv-backend restart

You need to scan each transponder. Won't take long.

To test the dvb-s card configure Myth to use the real adapter and check you get a picture on the help channel since it is unencrypted. Best to set it as the starting channel for the adapter.

Reconfigure to the virtual adapter in mythtv. Start sasc-ng, restart backed.

Here is a SQL for foxtrel transponders. Change the first column to match your source id (check videosource table. Should be 1 on most systems. 2 on mine since I have a dvb-t card in added first)

Code:

I got mine sasc-ng working. My problem is I was using symlinks to the dvbloopback so I know the id of the card using rules.d. I will need to find another way to give my Device Filenames and udev

Don't worry if your card server disconnects when idle. It will reconnect when needed.

Looks like another long night,.. was in enough trouble last night!

I have a dual DViCO for the HD FTA,.. present before the DVB-S card was introduced.

I also use rules.d for udev upon boot for my IR receiver as I had 2 dual HD DViCO's in there at one stage. Don't need to anymore, but did at the time to distinguish between identical devices associated to different USB id's.

Just curious why you needed the symlink,..

All sounds promising for tonight's session.

Hope all is cool when I get home

Cheers,

Jim.....

Ok,.. a bit of progress,... can view the FTA just fine.

Can view some of the others when hooking up to a newcs server as a client, however, after a while of changing channels it hangs Myth.

Looking at the sasc log I get the following:

Code:

And the kicker is that it also has an effect on newcs resulting in Dreambox CCcam clients continually logging out/in; haven't verified if they also loose picture.

Oh well, little steps.

I ran into the same problem only a few hours ago. Changed to Radegast and it is a little bit more stable. But still gets stuck in the loop and kills my newcs 1.5

Needs some work. Using hg618 of sasc-ng ( Version: 0.0.2-937d8d619cdd+). Newest build I could find since the hg server when down.

Changing rate from 2 to 0 fixed the problem for me.
<rate>0</rate> in newcs config file.

Got 2 sat cards and 1 terrestrial usb dongle running with shepherd getting my 7 days of data for all the chans. It is all running great now.

I thought rate was a parameter to limit/control the amount of ECMs that newcs would allow for that login, i.e. usually used as a mechanism to control cascading.

Having a value of 2 meaning it would allow an ECM every 2 seconds and no more. Would making it zero effectively make it allow unlimited ? same as not specifying any value ?

So yours is all stable now ?

Is your Myth patched at all ?

Might drop newcs 1.5 on there and see if there's any change, currently using 1.18.

Yes jimbo that is what rate is used for. 0 is ignore. I got the solution from a post on happysat.

My myth is default install from Mythbuntu 8.04 (0.21 + fixes ?). sasc is 618 from hg. Ran all day and did about 10 recordings + watching. My frontend & X crashed but that is another issue. A restart of them both sorted it out. Backend was still running and recording. I am so impressed with this setup. No longer will I channel surf. Just watch pre recorded stuff. I am yet to test multiple recordings from the same transponder with the same card.

If I get more problems with sasc I will try out the cccam solution.

Don't think rate will help me,.. currently its not set so I presume its default to 0, ignore/unlimited. Think I should go to a later newcs version first.

So you used mecurial, (hg), to grab sasc rather than subversion, (svn), from the standard place ?

Care to post the link/command you used? Or Pm if it isn't appropriate for the forum.

The version above made things much more stable. I don't seem to LOCK onto as many channels as I thought I should be able to,.. but that's be a different issue. I have read that DVB-S cards' tuners behave a little 'poorer' than STBs.

Thats the same tar I used to install mine since the hg repository is down. When I had my transponders entered correctly it scanned all the channels I could see on Lyngsat and also some new HD ones that had just popped up in the last few days.

Hey covert,

Do you know what servers/protocols are supported ? I can only find details on newcamd/radegast/gbox connections ?

Can a connection to a CCcam server be made ?

Cheers,

not with sasc-ng. CCcam can be installed into mythtv by patching the mythtv source code.
