Well the guys who sell the STB's will need to support their customers.
They can charge a service fee for it. Those who can't be bothered to learn how to use open source shouldn't bother buying the stb's in the first place.
These open source stb's are for those willing to learn how to use them.

once again i do not disagree with you. i have said many times on many forums that people who buy linux based STB's should at least learn how to use them, but that will never happen as they have been spoon-fed for way too many years.
yes clones will also be impacted if this goes ahead as per the authors wishes.

People are lazy. I know my DM HD on SKY UK is Genuine I went to the menu and did the security scan from Dream.
But I get better picture quality from an Openbox than the DM. Openbox pic at bottom the others are from the DM HD.
How will it impact decoders with the older software on already? really Dreammedia ought to concentrate on building better boxes at a lower cost. After all they can all be built in China cheap as chips. Nobody wants to pay 800 Euro for an STB when a better one costs Euro 150
