Default "dead" 4gb titanium usb

I recently purchased a 4gb Titanium USB flash drive from David Jones in Sydney, Aust. 2 weeks ago and have been using it to transfer files between home and school. Had no problems and was working fine till this morning when I was using it in a school laptop and working on a word doc. when the blue light went out on the usb and it disappeared from the "my computer" folder. It was fair full and only had a 100 or so mb of free memory and was handled very well until today. There is no physical damage to the usb and have tried plugging it in 6 other computers including a Mac and my home computer to no avail. i even got the IT guys at school to take a look at it and they could not figure it out. it only contains word, ppt, music, images and video and does support the U3 application program is enabled but there is no apps loaded. Their are no viruses on the school computer as I was not connected to the school network at the time. it contains the entire project proposal for my year 12 dt major work and is very important.

Hope there is a simple solution to this.

My first thought is, where are the backups.

Second thought, it could just be a broken solder joint on the connector. If you are handy with a soldering iron, resolder each pin on the connector back to the board.

I had 4 backups. One of which i am currently using now. I was just wondering if this has happened before and if it is a common problem.

Took it back today and got a new one
