Default Asus Eeepc Flash drive units

Question? have heard that most of these compact cheap notebook pc,run solid state flash ram memory hdd.
most run Linux operating system, because of the memory restrictions?some I notice on the web ads an from asus run Xp windows with a slightly larger flash ram hdd memory capacity.
Now been told that the lower spec Linux systems can be wiped! from the hdd memory an a net. version of Tiny Xp or TinyVista image file loaded to replace it? no windows activation ,key or watever an run fine, just gotta get your own web browser an some other windows basics?
Whats the Story?Anybody heard of this?
