| Senior Member | It's too hot if the PC crashes or locks up after starting to push some heavy use at it. My old P4 HT 3.2 chip used to crash at 65 degrees on the stock heatsink; or after fitting a bigger aftermarket unit never. The current chip is a Pentium D that regularly report it's 75 degrees C at idle yet the heatsink (the same one at that) only reaches 45 deg at idle and I've seen it reach a heatsink temp of 75 degrees and still running hard. If it crashes it's time to turn the fan back on because at the moment I'm actually running it silent. |
