Windows movie maker or nerovision should do that for you.
I have an incar DVR camera that records to an SD card in 2,5 or 15 minute segments in AVI format and apart from an odd edit, whats the best (FREE) program I can scrounge to 'Stitch' these segments together available please and then use something like Nero or Media player to burn to a hard copy or whatever when done.
Currently I have it set at the 15 minute mark which suits my needs at the moment.
There was no software supplied with the DVR at all for any form of editing etc.
This DVR records about 3.5GB per hour on the card so it would use a few DVD's even dual layers (Bluray perhaps?) to record your next Tour d' OZ Holiday drive.
Hmmm, just thought I have found a use for a 1 TB HDD if I ever get one.

A basic way (well under Linux) find the following command works well:
cat file1.avi file2.avi ... > collatedfile.avi
Unsure if there is a M$ equivalent command line alternative, as avoid Redmond OS's as much as possible![]()

I realised I had MS moviemaker and had a try, dragged and dropped the files together but I couldnt work out how to make them stitch together so more trying.
I also have Arcsoft Media Impressions2 but every time I try to open it with the Videos it crashes. Seemingly it doesnt like my running the AVI by that VLC system.

If using Windows, you can open a command prompt and use the copy command.
I can't remember it off by heart now, been a while since I used it, but something like
copy /b +filename1.avi +filename2.avi +filename3.avi destination.avi
anyhow its possible, I would expect all those parts to be of the same bitrate, but I have joined variable bitrate AVIs and it plays fine.
Also the destination drive/partition will need to be NTFS if the size of the file is going over 4gb. Your DVR probably splits the files up cause its writting to a SD card with Fat32 format.

use Format Factory, it's powerful utility with lots of capabilities for both video and audio files, and best of all it's free.
cheers

A couple of points:
1. The cat command does not appear to work, on my machine at least, if there are gaps in the file names e.g Air Force One1.avi. Simply rename to AFO1.avi or some such.
2. The command should be, again on my machine:
cat file1.avi file2.avi > collatedfile.avi
Yes, it does work well.

If the AVI's are the same format this is the best program I have found for joining (Fast AVI MPEG Joiner).
It will join 2 700mb AVI's in seconds

I am sadly learning that all AVI's are not equal as I have been getting all sorts of wierd and annoying pop Ups telling me its either 'Broken', yes BROKEN or not found or whatever.
I saw Windows Media player look for Codeks and then say it wouldnt open the clip so I am wondering if I am missing some (Codeks)and thats a possible reason things just dont want to 'Run' properly.
I had to load some ages ago (Video for DVD) after a reformat but this is a 'new' computer and all I had have long gone when that HDD dieded !!
Now I dont have an RAR. file to open that DND sent, something else that went down the gurgler when the HDD crashed, any links to 'Freebies'?

Ultra Video Joiner works for me. Best feature would have to be choosing other formats to convert to while joining.
