    Default POS Software

MasterRadio is working up a new fast food venture and asked me what a good combinaton of O/S and POS software and hardware might be.
It's an area about which I have no idea at all, suggestions would be appreciated.

I have friends who run a cafe with a touch screen Hissta machine (Acer IIRC) and POS software (can't remember the name at the mo) that interacts with quickbooks, so Intuit may be a place to look. I provide support for them, though I did not sell it to them, and they seem quite happy with the solution.

    Lots out there...

I recently recommended an Apple software package that was reasonably priced... Allowed the wait'person' to take counter or table orders on either an iPad or iPod touch, printed the order for the chef, networked between all devices, interfaced with MYOB, virtually fool proof for those who used it and ended up sold them a cash register with 10 or so programmable keys!!

Depends on what you are wanting it to do, simplicity required for users, and how much you are willing to spend...

Don't forget ongoing maintainance - One customer I had thought it was easier to use a knife on the touch screen instead of their greasy finger, another was paranoid of dirty keyboards, etc!

I'm using this free online POS for over a year now. It's great.

If you want to pay a small amount of money (not more the $400) I would recommend FuturePOS (WorldSmart Future - ) it is just a back-end controller that links in with Quest POS hardware and can account for stock, ordering, etc (you name it...it can do it). Quest POS Software mostly comes with the hardware so it is a minimal cost option if you are willing to pay.
