Amount of memory you have may help you with making the choice?

Memory (nothing to do with sat related stuff) is what pushed me to 64 bit. If a few things in the linux world would be sorted to my satisfaction I would probably be using a 64 bit linux instead of Windows 7 64.

Over the last 6 months I have installed Windows 7 64 bit on 5 PCs and have not any issues with them.

The progams that are 32 bit only will be installed in your program files directory 32 bit and the 64 bit programs are installed in the program files directory. Some will prompt you that there is a 64 bit version that you should install. I haven't noticed any issues with speed between the two versions but some web pages will only load up correctly in the 32 bit browser.

I did notice that gaming is a quicker on a 64 bit OS, but only tested with the games that I mainly play.

its all about the memory... and some malware ( sually vb6 based wont work on 64 bits).. if you got more than 2.4 gb of memory... you need 64 bits.. if not .. stick to 32

I've been migrating all my machines to W7 64 bit since the advent of W7. Some of the software I run plays much nicer with a 64 bit OS and I'd much rather make use of the hardware I'm running too. 32 bit legacy support will be around for a long time yet, but there are already some things it can't do.

Horses for courses but you can't loose with W7 64 bit. It's stable, has a well supported native driver suite and offers support for 32bit apps.

If I would actually have 64bit hardware I would be using 64bit, both Windows and Linux.
I don't see the point in running a 32bit OS on 64bit hardware.

As I am not a gamer or have a proper full HD video camera (one that would be worth the effort for serious video production), I'll probably wait until all my motherboards have gone up in smoke until I venture into 64bit. There are other things right now that are more important, like keeping up with all the bills.

...almost forgot, I set up my daughter's puter as a 64bit WIN/LINUX system with a game card that needs as much power as a plasma telly. She plays games like Skyrim and such and it has never missed a beat.

Truly more fun having a Raspberry Pi with Arduino than a new Windows 8 PC.

    Default 32 vs 64

Windows 7 ulimate 64 here, but has little difference as very few progams use the 64bit,so basicly using 32 most of time.As a matter of interest if looking at a complicated web page, say 9msn or yahoo7 news,go to programs and click on 64 bit explorer instead of the 32 it normaly uses it sometimes shows up slightly different.I havnt needed it,but you also have option of XP compatability mode.Hugh

I tried 64bit for a while but had a few isolated card reading / writing issues.
I know keep a dedicated XP PRO laptop that I use for any important hobby stuff.
Everything else is handled by 32bit windows 7.
