Default Partitioning a Mac drive

Any mac people out there?
I need to partition an external 500gig HDD.
What software do i need to do this?
Im a Pc man myself, just tryin to help out a mate.

there is no need to partition a mac HD unless you wish to run bootcamp and install XP on that partition.

The idea was to partition the external 500gb hdd.
So he could have a second drive to backup his itunes on.
So "Time Machine" would do its thing on the other.

Would this work?

The problem was you would delete a file today, go back in time..and it would be gone from the backup say 2 months ago.
Now im a PC man, this seemed a bit strange to me!

Any thoughts
