![]() | Recommendations for the best program for cleaning the XP registry. Primarily looking for something that will erase all data such as recently used files, recently attached drives etc. I have a couple of clients who operate law firms and they don't want any sensitive client data to remain on the PCs. I know Windows has a bad habit of storing all sorts of stuff in dark places. As far as file erasing, file slack and free space cleaning goes, I have that sorted already. Just need to deal to the registry. |

| Senior Member | Personally, i don't think there is one... A Best one i mean. I have used Ccleaner a bunch of times, it is light weight and does things you didn't even ask it to do. But if it is deletion your after, perhaps its one worth looking at for your needs. P.S. fandt, being he is a Senior Member, i don't think he can see your link ![]() |

| Registered User | I agree with Oceanboy, it doesn't matter what you use it's Murphys law that it will stuff up something on your system. Most of us visit the same places over and over again, in most cases we are thankfull that our computers keep track of this, and it's this that gives our internet browsing the impression of speed. Start stuffing with the registry and you'll regret something. If you can't edit it yourself, by hand, then leave it alone. |

![]() | Good point there Captain, although I am not looking for something to tweak the registry in order to suck the last few picoflops out of a system. It is more a security issue. I am well aware that XP writes all sorts of data to the registry about what files you have opened, used, seen, looked at, copied, burnt to CD, downloaded, and from where, and when, and for how long, and how fast, whether you had fries with it or upsized it, how many chips fell in the bottom of the bag and what sort of oil they were fried in! As mentioned above, I have clients that are lawyers, and a few other people who use their computers, especially laptops, for retrieval and processing of sensitive data that could be compromised should the machines fall into the wrong hands. Therefore I have the need to be able to run a cleaning tool through the registries of these machines in order to root out anything that could be seen as a security issue. Oceanboy - I'll follow that one up. Thanks ![]() |
