I am keen to have a look, but that means roof climbing and / or a new decoder.
Yep..in mpeg4 and all in French so unless you speak francais, it probably is not much use

80cm minimum, 1.2M is ideal, you'll need a universal LNB too.

    Hi Mr Ha,

Go for the Aston Simba STB and 80cm dish as Ocean boy suggested 1.20 m is ideal in Melbourne to avoid rain fade

I installed this DTV service on a 80cm dish for a friend in Chadstone not so far from your location few months ago and we had an excellent signal , a good quality universal LNB should do the job for you.

This service is very good you have a lot of films, sports, culture , discovery stuff and history, you are not going to be disappointed.

You have plenty of radios coming from Paris, news, current affairs and even an excellent radio channel called France Culture, plus a 24 hours News Radio, plenty of good stuff.

    Cheers
    M

Free. It is the cost of the decoder and card that is the only cost with the Aston Simba...it ended up costing around $500 for me but it all depends on the currency conversion rate into euros

LBF on the other hand is like foxtel but as a yearly subscription depending on the channels you want

We also purchased the Aston Simba Satellite Decoder (with the Viaccess Smart Card) from Antec in Noumea by contacting them on the following email address (in French):

    Murielle Moracchini <mur.antelec-nc@canl.nc>

    You could also try:

    antelec-nc@canl.nc

With the exchange rate at the time (approx. 12 Months ago) the Aston Simba Satellite Decoder with the Viaccess Smart Card cost us approx. $500 AUD (International Money Transfer) which included delivery to Australia. They will provide you with their Bank account details for the purchase when you email them. As Michel has said once you purchase the Aston Simba there are no other costs as the included Viaccess Smart Card has life time validity. No you can't just purchase the card!

Again as Michel has already said, there is a lot of good stuff on those channels. :-) But no HD channels such as France 2 HD etc. However we also have a monthly subscription to LBF's Premium Package which is $49per month. I'm happy having both. We get three HD channels with LBF now. Here's what we get:

    TF1 HD
    Eurosport HD
    National Geographics Channel HD
    LC1
    1TELE
    Sport+/L'Equip
    InfoSport
    RTL9
    TV5MONDE
    TF6
    TMC
    Planete
    Planete THALASSA
    Voyage
    Cuisine TV
    Histoire
    Planete No Limit
    Cinema Emotion
    Action
    TCM (No.2)
    7Gulli
    MCM Top
    MCM Pop
    Trace Urban

I use a Ultraplus X-9200HD with the Viaccess Smart Card from the Aston Simba and a Mediaguard Smart Card from LBF to access both services.

    Cheers!

i thought some of those channels listed above were part of Canal+ ???
Cool... nice to know its LBF.

The 3 music channels crap all over anything Foxtel has ever produced

It seems signal strengths are well up on the previous Sat too, an 85cm Dish seems to walk it in now.
Even with the last 3 days of thick cloud and rain where i live. Sig never dropped below 96% in quality, where in previous years, i'd completely loose the link if heavy rain was in the path.

    Hi Oceanboy,

I've replied to your PM's. I thought I would post some additional info here for everyone else.

To receive the following channels here in Australia (for free...almost) off Intelsat 18:

    France 2
    France 3
    France 4
    France 5
    Arte
    France 24
    France O
    Caledonia 1
    Wallis 1
    1 Feed from Polynesia
    1 Feed from Wallis
    1 Feed from Caledonia

Plus a number of French Radio stations.

You need to purchased this Aston Simba ("SIMBA HD Outre-mer). See:

This version of Aston Simba Satellite Decoder (with the included Viaccess Smart Card) is only available from Antec in Noumea. See:

Here is a flyer from Antec in Noumea (which they create especially for people living in Australia wanting info about this decoder including cost etc.). I've put it on our Web site (Alliance Française de Wagga Wagga) for our members and anyone else who might be interested. See:

You can't use the other Aston Simba Decoders listed here (except the "SIMBA HD Outre-mer") on Intelsat 18 as the Smart Cards in those won't work.:

Also the Smart Cards included with some of those decoders expire after a period of time. I think it's three years. So you have to buy another. You also can't buy one of the Smart Cards in France (for 50 Euros I think) etc. and use them here to access France 2 etc. on Intelsat 18.

This is not a package or subscription service like CANAL+/CANALSAT CALÉDONIE. It just provides access to those channels listed above. The French Government provide this French Satellite Digital TV service called TNT (which we call freeview) to the French territory around the world. But you have to buy the decoder to get the access card. Much the same as in Australia the Government provides Satellite Digital TV services through VAST to people living in remote areas who can't get receive Terrestrial Digital TV. With VAST, you also have to buy the Decoder with the Access Card. You can't just get the access card. See:

    Also see:

    and

If you want CANAL+/CANALSAT CALÉDONIE, you need to get a subscription to LBF. LBF don't offer everything locally that CANAL+/CANALSAT CALÉDONIE offer in Nouvelle-Calédonie. See:

LBF is owned and operated by CANAL+ OVERSEAS, but they won't even provide access to:

    France 2
    France 3
    France 4
    France 5
    Arte

Which they provide to Nouvelle-Calédonie. Go figure! Hence the reason for buying the Aston Simba.

Short of getting a subscription to CANAL+/CANALSAT CALÉDONIE from Nouvelle-Calédonie which some here have done through different methods. This is the situation.

As I have already said, I have a LBF subscription, and I've also purchased the Aston Simba decoder (only to get the included Viaccess Smard Card) to access those channels listed above. I'm not using the Aston Simba decoder or the decoder supplied by LBF. I've taken the respective Smart Cards out of both these decoders and put them into my Ultraplus X-9200HD. I can then watch all the channels on the one Satellite Decoder. The Ultraplus has two Smart Card slots. I have the Mediaguard Smart Card from LBF in one slot, and the Viaccess Smart Card from the Aston Simba in the other slot. Note the SIMBA HD has two Smart Card slots, but they only support the Viaccess Smart Cards. Not the Mediaguard Smart Cards.

Anyway the only downside to not using the decoder supplied by LBF is I can't access the Subtitles on the LBF channels such as TF1 etc. They aren't using standard methods they use in Europe. That is the Teletext or Subtitles buttons don't work. Subtitles do work on France 2, 3 etc. when available. When I was in Europe last month I noted that you could get subtitles on TF1 on Teletext page 888. If anyone knows how CANALSAT CALÉDONIE are doing their subtitles I'd love to know! It's certainly not the same as they use in Europe.

Anyway I hope this information is helpful.

    Kind Regards

    Mark

You need $172 Euro a month!

Possibly a lot easier and cheaper just to watch youjizz, but if you like Wednesday night gay porn, go the xxl option
