Cool Sat TV Guide for VAST and Aurora viewers

Thanks to the generosity of Gavin at , a new domain name and hosting server has been established for both VAST Guide and Aurora Guide. As of tonight, please visit

..to continue using the TV guides!

Thanks to everyone for continuing to support the website! At one stage I had 180+ users visiting the old sites in just 1 day, so it's definitely popular. In fact, Queensland viewers love it the most out of all states with NSW and NT viewers coming a distant 2nd and 3rd.

Sorry that was me, I got bored one day and just sat clicking on the link. ;-)

On a serious note, pass on our appreciation to Gavin from all of us here at Sesame Street.

    Will do, Krueger.

I've been working more and more on the site now that I have a decent server to play with. Over the next week I'll be opening up some new features:

    * Local database. The XML data I'm using now will eventually be fed into my own database, which means I can keep on top of program changes and episode names a lot easier and quicker.
    * A search function so you can find all the times your favourite show starts on any channel in your zone. Search by title, category or cast member.
    * Single channel views. Each state link will take you to a new page which gives you the choice of viewing the grid, or viewing a single channel.

    Stay tuned!

    Hey Smacca,

I checked and it appears to still be borked.

ie. Brothers and Sisters tonight @ 21:30 as per

Your guide is showing 21:00 start.

Another example, Friday night football shows as starting at 20:30 as per the above guide, but your guide shows 20:00.

Ok, which state are you in, and what guide are you looking at?

I'm in WA, looking at the NT guide.

I'm a bit confused too, not sure whether to check the Darwin, Alice Springs or Central Satellite guides on the SCmedia site.

Looking at the YourTV website, it shows (for example) the Richmond v. Collingwood game at 19:00 for Darwin, but 20:00 for Regional NT.

As I don't have my box hooked up yet (just got it today, I can't check properly). Is the feed you get on Aurora the Darwin feed or the Regional NT feed?

First of all, the Alice Springs and Central Satellite services are the exact same. SCTV on Aurora and SCTV North on VAST are the exact same. They're all in Qld time (EST), so if you're an Aurora/VAST viewer living in the NT, you need to subtract 30mins from each program. When you say Brothers and Sisters is starting at 21.00 when looking at the NT guide, then that's correct as it airs at 21.30 in its home state Qld.

In any case, selecting a different state to your own when viewing the guides, like you're doing, will show you incorrect times unless the states are in the same timezone. If you've got Aurora, just use the WA guide. If you've got VAST, then PM me and I'll set up a custom guide for you like I have done with other out-of-area viewers/travellers.

Ahh, that's where I'm going wrong, I'm selecting the state I want to be viewing in, all makes sense now.

Been checking the tv guide this afternoon and evening and it doesn't load the channel names/logos.

Does anyone else have this issue?

Edit: Checked both VAST and Aurora and same issue.

Whoops. I never moved the icons from the old Aurora site to the new one. I just changed it and should be fixed today after 3.30pm EST when the server does its daily update of the guides.

The single channel viewer has now launched. The maps have been replaced by a simple pull-down menu in the top right-hand corner. Give it a go and let me know if there's any bugs!

Next up, a movie and sports guide.

Some changes to the Aurora guides as I've been neglecting them with all this VAST business.

    * SCTV Central for Aurora has now been added. Previously this channel matched SCTV North (VAST), but they've been removing Ten's AFL from North in the past few weeks. This weekend should be spot-on, but if you see errors please let me know!

    * Added Al Jazeera, NITV, and an additional ABC1/SBS ONE to all Aurora guides/views.

    * Overall, the Aurora data should be more thorough, with episode info, AFL teams, etc. A problem from the old Aurora Guide days that I never fixed.

Can this guide data be imported into DVBViewer using something like Xepg? or is it not suitable for this?

Data for any provider (VASTXXX or AuroraXXX) can be downloaded in XML format, which is widely used on things like DVBV, MediaPortal, etc. You just replace tv.html with tv.xml in the Grid View address.

I haven't tested this though. If it doesn't work, let me know and I can customise one for you.

I've been fixing a lot of errors with the Local News channels in the past week. Start times should be more accurate and the late-night repeats are now included. Take a look at the grid guides from Tuesday onwards to see what I mean. It's a work in progress, but we're getting there!

Thanks Smacca, I changed the html to xml and Xepg was able to collect the data and import it into DVBViewer. Very nice!

Is there any chance you might be able to include TV guide data for Australia Network channel (off Intelsat-5) with your Vast and Aurora guide data?

    Guide data is found here:

I don't think its available in .xml. I have contacted them to request .xml files in the past, but they mostly don't respond to emails.

    Many thanks,

    Tim

    Hi Smacca,

Haven't had the need to use your guide for a while, have Austar & usually use theirs for my programing.
Visited yours today, WOW its looking & working great, thanks heaps for the effort you put in.

Sorry for the delayed reply. I can't seem to find that data anywhere other than the website link you provided. It needs to be XML to be compatible with the rest of the channels, unfortunately.
