Posting this as an aside to above comments to confirm that prices may drop

There is a fine line between "Hobby" and "Madness"

Chaps, does anyone have any info on where this is at? Will a orange IQ card work in a third party box? Or, blue only?

    Cheers

Neither. No foxtel cards work in third party receivers.

Is a solution being worked on to allow Foxtel cards to be used by a card reader connected to a HTPC with Oscam and a cable tuner?

This hasn't been able to be done for nearly a year now.

    Thanks.

I have no doubt solutions are being worked on.... but there are no working solutions available that I know of.

And you can bet if there is one discovered, it will be countered by the pay TV providers anyway.

Even if there was a solution do you really think it will get posted in a public forum such as this?

The solution I was using until it was countered: phoenix card reader, DVB-S2 tuner card (I was on satellite at the time), OScam, TVsource...was posted in public forums (pcmediacenter.com.au) and probably here, right?

Is there any way to swap out the HDD in the IQHD for a larger capacity, I presume if it could be done would need something like copying over the data from the original +/- firmware flash?

    Thanks.

Yeah. We arent talking piracy here, just using your own paid for sub card in your own receiver. Nothing mind blowing their for them.

Would seriously doubt that it would work. I think the IQHD uses a specific Windows OS variant designed for those boxes only, and the way Uncle Rupert's minions think, I'd bet that it was coded in such a way that it wouldn't let you ghost the original OS files.

I don't know but I suspect that it will be a normal filesystem, but with strong encryption. Ghosting it won't necessarily do you much good but it may be worth a try if it doesn't worry you breaching the terms of your agreement with Foxtel.

The process would be to clone the image to the new drive. Something like Partition Magic or Clonezilla may do the job. Then try to use the new drive. If it works with the cloned image you would then increase the size of the appropriate partition on the new drive, assuming of course, that the filesystem is of a type that supports this.. Be careful not to play with the original drive.

Ghosting it will give you an exact duplicate and as such the additional space will be wasted. I would think that unless you use similar drive model/vendors it won't use the drive, pretty easy to do from their point of view and they would be crazy not to in my opinion. They are all about screwing us for more cash

The only way you can increase the partition size is if it is in a known format, if not you are stuck.

No I am not talking piracy. Cos I too would like to use my own third party box as the Poxtel one is ok, but i want to take my recording on the move.
