Foxtel A&E channel to launch in February Just saw an ad for this on my Austar channel and yes at the bottom of the add it states in fine print that it’s "not available for Austar customer".
So much for Austar looking after it's customers.

Having seen most of those already and avoiding like the plague since, I dont think I will have any sleepless nights because Austar isnt including it in the lineup.
Personaly I would prefer Skychannel 600 so I could see News from our respective Capitol cities

I saw that advertised too! Missed the bit about Austar, that stinks Foxtel will/do not service rural South Oz!
Another reason why the ACCC should approve the merger - there's now a real gap in the premium HD packages between Foxtel and Austar, ie for just about the same pricing you get 22 HD channels with Foxtel as opposed to 17 with Austar (plus Foxtel provides access to HD movies on demand and the 3d channel).Originally Posted by lsemmens

if the Foxtel merger with Austar, didn't allow Foxtel in the country to offer the Same services they offer in the City

Its getting to be a bit of a joke with HD channels not available to Austar.
Does anyone know what the reasoning is behind it ?? I know its not simply a matter of access, as Discovery HD and Nat Geo HD are encrypted with NDS only suggesting they dont have any intention of giving Austar customers access. I presume this new channel will be NDS only encrypted ?
Probably softening up Austar customers so they will be happier when Foxtel take over..."look people, lots of new channels"
The real reason is probably cost saving on Austar's part...it's not like they have any competition.

For those who think the forthcoming merger between Foxtal and Austar will change anything I believe they wont be too thrilled to find at least in the short term, anything will be different.
Its still very obvious that many think that Austar and Foxtel are 2 completely seperate services with their own specific channels 'covering' set areas when in fact its just one and each company controls who sees what through activation of the STB.
The 2 companies by now must have decided how they will appear but I am tipping there will still be the seperation between Regional/Rural and Metropolitan.
I also can see why the same services on Austar are dearer than Foxtel because of the actual area they cover.
Foxtel would have a 1000 customers in a 100 kilometres whereas Austar might have a 100 customers in a 1000 kilometres.
The costs I am referring to are the upfront installation/maintainence costs incurred by their respective installers not the transmitted signal.

Thats all I can see it is....there doesnt seem to be any contractual issues that would be stopping them that I can find.
Anyway, good to see another HD offering even if it is only available to Foxtel customers. Foxtel's HD channels seem to look about 50 times better than the FTA offerings on my TV. Cant wait for the Fox Footy HD channel.
Yep can't wait for all HD instead of the crappy terrestial pics offered up by 7 and 10, just as long as Austar stick to their word that it will be at no extra cost if you have the Sports package, wouldn't mind betting they change their mind just before the season starts.

Cant see you getting the Hd footy channel for nix but the footy channel is going to be SD as well Ted
I've lost count of how many times us Asstar customers have been ignored or held to ransom for channels that Foxtel users get complementary, actually it started back with Galaxy customers being underprivileged.
I certainly don't feel complimented, Speed channel was a perfect example.
If the same deal happens when Foxtel merge with Asstar, I'll be the first one writing to the ACCC for discrimination.

I think this is the key statement
