| Thaumaturgist | The UECs are a terrible receiver for the hobbyist (fiddler !) but probably the most friendly set-and-forget receiver for Mr. Average farmer etc. They have good picture quality and when set up properly are a 'perfect' receiver in the above case. In the bush where mains power drops off regularly, these receivers automatically NIT scan the home frequency and find any changes etc. on power-on-boot, which I reckon is a good idea. BUT....a couple of years ago I was called to a job where a local 'cocky' had bought himself a do-it-yourself AURORA kit with all the usual stuff like twist-on connectors, really shitty cable, cheapest possible dish and LNB. The instructions were fine but the shop selling the gear had supplied an LNB with LO of 10600 instead of the 11300 which was the factory default LO. The instructions simply told the installer to wave the dish about until the user 'saw pictures' which, with the incorrect LO value, could never work. Anyway, I supplied decent cable and fitted compression connectors and got the system going. The box supplied was a newer UEC with the OPTUS logo but I can't tell you the model number...it weighed half as much as the earlier UECs and felt very cheap-and-cheerful-Chinese but it worked. When I finished these AURORA jobs I would normally delete the vacant 'placeholders' and sort the channel list sensibly - i.e. all the ABCs, SBSs in time-zone order - whilst getting cheques written and enjoying a coffee and piece of cake etc. BUT (again) this newer type UEC would not let me delete the empty placeholders and sort the channel list. I did not spend much time on this problem but have never had to with other receivers. I then decided that the newer UECs deserved the 'shitbox' tag. . ![]() |

Ok, sure I'm a tight-arse... but as for watching the "oprah" - NeverEver - I'm more into Rock & Roll, & Live, at that. But I do like my mine Strong! As far as driving it goes - it's very User friendly, & served me well back in the Austar Card-sharing days. I never figured out the Disceq stuff, but it works with rotator just fine. After all the helpful posts (& not so helpful), I'm still confused. Can anyone give me an authoritative answer on whether my card won't upgrade because of the box (SRT480011/4820) or the cam (v2.06b - freecammed with v2.02) - with all the talk about Irdeto licences, is there a website which lists which boxes have them. PS. This is not a whine - more of an impassioned plea for Help!! It's hard to differentiate on forums.

![]() | freecam won't update whitey anymore..... you need a 2.21b or 2.26b irdeto cam, NOT a new smit cam though..... |

| Junior Member | There's hope yet. Optus have just managed to switch Imparja off on me, which was part of the deal to get WIN & GWN. Maybe I just have to wait another week or so. It's getting dangerously close to a much needed-to-get Footy Match in Perth....think I'll take up mate's offer to babysit his Dreambox for a month, but won't tell me if it's my box or CAM that's no good. Buying into Card-share F?x club is getting more appealing by the hour. |

only joking UfditUfixit can be very frustrating if you know others can get a game live on the telly but due to your location you can't, although this is about the Aurora platform, I'm guessing you mean Fox Sports is what your after, I have a Strong 4800II amongst others but as mentioned you need a Purple Cam, but as Hoe said, don't get a SMIT

Permanent residence is melbourne, but for the the sake of my marriage, if anyone asks (like Optus for example), I'm sitting in my caravan in Eucla, conveniently just over the WA border - well, it would be convenient if Optus could only reconfigure my Aurora card!

Optus must have observed the unusually large number of caravaners who have taken up residence in Eucla ![]()

Are you thinking Openbox or Opentel ??? I know there is a guy on egay in WA selling X-810's cheap.. By all accounts , they are a good cheap box.. Has anyone actually confirmed what voltage they run through the card slots ??? Edit : anyone know the difference between the Openbox X-810 & the Dreamax 480 ?? they look the same .. (more than likely are the same just different box & name)

| Super Moderator | Why bother going to Ebay ? I bought a Openbox X-810 in the BST forum here from Jofaa for $88. 2 card slots and doesnt fry cards , no modification needed. I think I also saw Toor selling them in there as well. Both are trustworthy sellers. I gave away an Opentel to a mate , I can confirm they also dont cook cards and dont need to be modified. |

I'm told that they come out of different factories. While they look the same the Dreamax is reportedly a higher quality product.
