Default SMS reporting with Solution 16+

Hi everyone,

I've been lurking in these forums for a while and after finding lots of useful info in here I've just successfully installed a Solution 16+ system in my home. I had a licensed security contractor run all the wiring and I fitted off the panel & PIRs and did all the programming. All has been good for a week or so but I'm having trouble getting the panel to send SMS reports to my mobile.

There are no Telstra lines available in my area at the moment so I'm using a DSC GSM module to communicate over the mobile network. The system calls my mobile without a problem, but SMS reports are what I'm after.

I have tried a couple of things. I've set the domestic number as my mobile number and set the reporting format to domestic; and I've entered my mobile number as Primary Dest 1 and TX Format Dest 1 as SMS and still no dice. I've cleared the SMS Password as it's my understanding this is used for sending SMS over the Telstra PSTN.

I've got the installer manual and have learnt a lot about the system in the week or so that I've had it running but this issue has me stumped. I'd appreciate any and all advice.

Thanks very much.

Which DSC GSM module are you using?

It's the GS3050-I (similar to the ones here: . The panel is calling my mobile with no problems so I assume the issue has to be down to my programming.

I've been going over the instructions available on the Bosch NZ site () and so far I've done the following:

1. Set Domestic Default
2. Set Account Dest 1 as Area 1 ("Security System")
3. Entered my mobile number as the Account Number
4. Enabled O&C reports to Dest 1
5. Set Primary Dest 1 to the Optus SMS Gateway number (0411990001)
6. Set TX Format Dest 1 to SMS

When I do this I get nothing at all (not even a phone call). When I set Primary Dest 1 as my mobile number (not the SMS Gateway), my phone rings at the end of exit time (for a close report) but there is no SMS.

I know the GS3050 can generate its' own SMS reports through triggering its' input lines, but these are limited to "Alarm" and "End of Alarm" and this is obviously of limited use.

I appreciate your interest, and I'm really hoping I can get this going.

The problem is you are programming the bosch to transmit SMS, in doing so, the DSC GSM doesn't recognise the signals.

What I think you should do, as with most GSM communicators is set the panel (bosch) to dial out as normal using contact ID and the DSC communicator to send the SMS's.

After looking at the site, it confirmed my other post, these GSM dialers are compatible with any Contact ID panel. So you need to program the bosch as Contact ID.

After reading the installation manual of the GS3050, it isn't possible to SMS the contact ID events received from the Bosch. Just won't work the way you want it to.

What you need to do is piss off the GS3050, and pick up a SECENG SED-62 or equivalent GSM dialer.

I see. Well thanks for taking the time to look into this. Any idea where I can find the units you suggest (that will sell to non-trade)? And a ballpark price?

Thanks again.

I've just emailed Sec Eng and I'm looking at about $750 for the SED 62. More cash than I'm ready to spend right now.

When a Telstra line becomes available I'll get that connected and use it for SMS reporting. In the event that this line goes down, I will at least get a phone call via the DSC unit. Not as informative as an SMS telling me which zones are in alarm etc but it's better than nothing. The other option is getting the system monitored using the Telstra line and have the DSC unit sending CID as a backup.

Thanks again for your help.

I'm in the same situation Dimeco. No phone line but exploring options for SMS alerting. Any ball park pricing on that TMN-50T telemetry device? Another option I'm looking at is the Conettix C900V2 Dialer Capture Ethernet Module available from Bosch as I have a broadband connection and this looks like it may work over VOIP. Can any installers with experience on this device comment? Pricing?

As with most things from Bosch - the quality is excellent. Last time I checked it was around US$400, but that was going back a couple of years.

GamerBoy is referring to our Linksys Solution which allows you to use any "off the shelf" Linksys VoIP adapter for sending alarms.

If you want email and SMS alerts sending out to any number of contacts then you can do this through our Virtual Monitoring Platform....

If you want local support you can order through one of our two Australian agents. If you don't require local support then you are welcome to deal directly with me and you can email me for more information and pricing.

TMN-50T Trade $450-00 + GST

Standard GSM Back Up - Trade $499-00 + GST

Next G products are coming.... well under the prices you have been quoted.

With the credit crisis - shopping around for prices is soooo important..

I Don't know if you GSM unit only reads contact id signals but I'd try the following using 125 107 number and leaving the telstra sms gateway password at default.

BOSCH – Solution 64 – Tech Notes

SMS – Panel Programming

1. Determine the required reporting destination (1 or 2) and set the transmission (TX) reporting format (1 or 2) to SMS (Loc 5-4-0 / 5-4-1)

2. Program the access number (125107) into the Primary and / or Secondary telephone number location. (Loc 5-1-1 / 5-1-3)

3. Program the mobile phone number(s) that the messages are to be sent to into the account code(s) locations for the corresponding destination (Loc 2-2-0 / 2-2-1)
NOTE: In multi area systems, you will need to enter the appropriate mobile number for each area.

4. The SMS password is set for the Telstra Network (Telstra SMS Gateway).

5. Program the destination route for each event type that is required to report to SMS. By default, all event types report to area 1.
Open / Close Route Location 2-2-2
First to Open/Last to Close Location 7-7-1
Inputs Route Location 3-1-6
Status Route Location 5-4-3
Emergency Route Location 5-4-4
Comms Test Route Location 5-9-4

I thought you might have meant something like that.

I'd be nervous at having so many format changes along the path. It would be like a game of Chinese Whispers.
