Default Motion Sensor w/High Pitched Sound

    Hi All,

First post; apologies if it's in the wrong area.

I'm looking for a small sensor device that makes a high pitched/ultrasonic sound when motion is detected. Holds sound for a few seconds, and then returns to normal state.

It doesn't require to be wireless, and will only be covering a flat ground area of about 2x2mtrs.

Is there any stock standard little pieces at DSE, Jaycar etc that anyone knows of?

I'm not an electronics person, so building is an issue.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Im no expert in this area but what you describe sounds like a inferred beam being broken when crossed like the buzzers used at milk bars. Im sure you could fit a higher pitched sound should you need to.

Maybe just fit a standard alarm IR sensor to it to cover a wider area rather than the IR light beam?

    Cool

You could use an IR detector & peizo however -

The PIR would need to have a set of changeover contacts (most have normally closed contacts) Not hard to find but generally not provided on low cost detectors.

The legth of time the peizo sounds will depend on the movement it sees so will not be a constant.

Why do you want ultrasonic , got a dog problem ?

It would be better to state what you want it to do and the prefered outcome. More info is better than less for a more accurate reply. Also is it to be used inside or outdoors.

Thanks for your input thus far.

Yes, it is a little dog problem. Essentially, I have a rug in the lounge that is surrounded by couches bar the one entry gap. It's about 2x2m, and I want to stop them getting onto the rug when we're not at home.

We're utilising a sound monitored device to stop barking outside and they have responded to that quite well. EG: Zippo barking when they shouldn't. Now I want to make the carpet a no-go zone when we're not there to enforce.

Oh, and blocking it off isn't an option, we've tried. Two Jack russells know they can jump over the back of the couch.

Innotek have been suggested to be someone to speak to, but I'm sure something like this could be acquired/built for less than what they may have to offer. I'll continue to research none-the-less.

    Thanks

Motion detectors aren't the answer, as they detect....Motion.

Assuming the detection pattern is appropriate, and your dog walks onto the rug, it will sound. If however he then curls up and spends the afternoon motionless in the middle of your rug, nada.

I'd be looking at chemical repellent solutions which you can get from any pet supply shop. That and providing a rug or mat which they *can* lie on without any trouble.

Without knowing your dogs, I'd make a general observation about small dogs. Because they are small, they are often poorly trained and allowed to 'get away' with things such as jumping, sitting on furniture, which would see a big dog sent away for re-education. You might want to look at this as a dog training issue, the solution for which won't be a gadget. Gadgets are at best a band-aid for a training deficiency or dog (or owner) personality disorder.

    Agreed.
My kids have a Maltese Shitzme and I didn't want it stinking up my $7000 worth of new carpet.
A couple of quick boots and a few growls afterwards did the trick.

    What gave it away?

Have you considered yelling at your dogs? It works every time!

Children also. Oh, and strangers in the park.

Actually "GarageKid", I'd say it wasn't worth you opening in the first place. You've wandered in here, sniffed around like you owned the joint, and then covered everything in crap. Just like your dog. Maybe we can get a small, ultrasonic device to keep people like you where they belong - elsewhere.

    Thanks for visiting. Bye now.

P.S. If you are going to try and insult my intelligence, you might want to consider a spell check first. I'm just saying...
