Default Connecting to TITAN via remote Modem (Laptop Agere Systems AC'97 Modem)

I am having troubles with a laptop i recently purchased (Panasonic Toughbook CF-18) not being able to connect to numerous site with Challenger software via remote modem dial in. I have no problems with any other PC's or Laptops except this one.

Does anybody have a clue what initialisation string i should be using?

The modem dials fine, sounds like its about to connect then just disconnects.
TITAN log window shows MODEM HANGUP.

    Yep!!
I've got a Toshiba Satellite sreies laptop that I've never been successfully able to dial in to any panels with although it works fine doing a direct connect via usb-serial adaptor)
In the old days I used to carry around an old BitBlitzer 300baud serial modem that worked with any panel (until it died).
Never really had much luck with built in modems at all.
Good luck. Let us know how you go.

Looks to me like that's a software driven modem, also known as a "winmodem" or "soft modem". These devices get the operating system to do a lot of their work. Consequently, yours lacks some of the hardware hibbety jibbety (technical term) that dedicated 'hardware' modems might have.

A lot of 'built-in' modems have these sort of issues and you will probably have more luck with a fair dinkum standalone modem (internal or external). That is, you might be completely out of luck with your existing hardware, so don't kill yourself trying to get it upright. Replace it.

Maybe try getting your hands on the appropriate manual and learn about AT commands.
You can then write your own init string and put it in the "Advanced" settings box for windoze to use.
Try "dumbing down" your modem by emulating v21.

Most new modems in laptops will not go down to 300 baud. You will need to check that.

By memory, earlier challengers work at 300 baud, while the newer ones can do up to 2400.
