    Cool Funny Fuse

I usually test fuses by doing a voltage reading across them while in circuit (cos then I don't have to get them out) & never had a problem with that method until today. Twas a Solution 880 Ultima producing various system , battery & AC alarms. The battery had been changed but the faults continued. Plugpack reading 16V ( bit low ) & battery reading 13.2 (just right) Do a panel battery test & reads 12.9 so why is it thinking it has a low battery. Start checking the fuses(in situ) & WTF the battery fuse has 3.2V across it. At last I've finally found a resistive fuse. Pop it out of the board & test it again but this time it's O/C. Replace the fuse & all OK. Keeps the day interesting I suppose.

you must have had the day i had yesterday! fuse and battery issues, i took pics....

    Heres the fuse i found

and then later on in the day on a Tecom, didnt take long to work out why the battery test failed

Most battery issues i come accross is due to the spade termanal on the lead being so loose! every new install and battery change i use my pliers and tighten them then push them on the battery and there now nice and tight, not loose. Vista 12s always are loose from factroy, infact all older ademcos.

I cant remember what it was, i didnt pay attention, i just disconnected it.

The customer apparentaly put up a fight with the sales guy in trying to NOT upgrade the panel.

LOL slow blow, yeah it is, the detector wiring slowly melts before it blows the wire/fuse

    No it isn't.

You are living in the past, George. See below for current recognised best-practice.

1/4 inch potentiometer shaft is a nice fit in 3AG fuseholders.......and you never have to replace a fuse again.

Mythbusters tested this and you can detonate a .22 in the car fuseholder .......only if there is a short circuit.
