    Default Ness R8 Help please

    Hi guys

We have a Ness R8 in the home, monitored by Chubb.

A few weeks ago, the low battery light came on so I pulled out the old one out from the alarm panel and replaced it with a new one. The tamper alarm was going crazy and I didn't have the remote with me so I tried entering my disarm code (which we rarely use as we always have the remote!).

I panicked a little and began pushing different buttons and I think I've somehow changed settings on the panel. I rang Chubb and they told me the arm/disarm signals are fine, but I have two issues:

    1. The Battery and Radio buttons flash together constantly:
I've had a look at the manual, and for the first problem it seems to indicate a low battery from a radio device, but there is no icon to display which device number is causing the low batter signal. Before changing all the batteries in every PIR/remote, could it be some other error as a radio device number is not showing?

    2. I no longer hear the chirp from the outdoor siren when arming and disarming:
We still see the blue flashing light when arming and disarming, but it's no longer is audible. The panel alarm deeps, but just not the exterior siren. Could I have disabled this option someone?

    Thanks in advance.

    Cool

Not an expert on R8s but I doubt you could have accidently changed any programming. If you are replacing a det battery you might as well do the lot because you can bet your wobbly things if you change one today you'll be changing another one next week.

Replace all the batteries, go outside and wait 3 - 5 minutes.
Walk back in and make sure all the lights flash red on the sensors, probably worth having someone else stand at the keypad to make sure it registers there as well. (this is called a walk test)

Call Chubb's monitoring centre and advise them you are testing the system for 1 hr or so, arm the system, wait a few minutes again go inside and set off all the sensors.

See if the sirens work now.
Give Chubbs Monitoring a call back, check all the signals were received at their end.

if all the above works, and your siren is still not beeping on arming.
You may have a flat "panel battery" which requires a technician to attend

    Hope this helps!

Thought I would report back in case others have similar problems. Finally got around to replacing the PIR batteries this weekend and all issues have been resolved.

We have six PIR's so I tested all the 9v batteries with the multimeter and five were running at around 8.6v but one was just under 5v. Going by the manual, a low battery warning should also flash the PIR # but for me, the radio and battery lights flashed.

I still don't get why this would cause the normal 'chirps' from the outside siren to be muted, but it's now back to normal (ie. one chirp when armed, three chirps when disarmed).

Thanks again for your help guys.
