Were do you want the signals to go?
A control room or to a mobile?
Howdy,
First time I've ventured into this forum, but I am sure someone can help.
To pay for a couple of week's holidays, I have promised a mate that I will install an alarm in his beach house.
Having installed 4 Jaycar AVGAD (Israeli built microprocessor programmable controller system, 5 or 8 zone system) alarms in the past, I like it and will probably do the same again.
My issue is that the beach house does not have a land-line for the dialer and I want to use a mobile if an alarm condition exists. I am sure someone else has done this but I am thinking that at the very least, I get the dialer output direct into the phone and some sort of dial trigger that can probably come of the spare alarm condition o/p. Ideally, some sort of interface between a common as muck pre-paid K-Mart kiddy mobile special is what i am after.
Anyone done this/know how/can offer a suggestion?
Happy to go to another solution if need be. The "kit" including int/exter sirens, keypad, 2 X PIRs, 2 reed switches (yeah yeah), stickers, 6 core cabling and assorted crap is about $539.
cheers

Just to a mobile.
So, the dialer rings a pre-stored number. The very fact that THAT number is ringing tells my mate that the alarm's gone off. The AVGAD can send DTMF tones down the line I think but that's not really what's needed here. If worse comes to worse, i might even mod an old phone and just put a little switch across the call button pads so that it "presses the call" button.
Cheers and thanks
Make sure you use high quality string and sticky tape to hold it altogether.
You wouldn't want your mate's insurer to find out you'd used inferior sticky tape...
Has your mate considered what he's going to do when the alarm contacts him after an intrusion?
Suddenly I'm thinking I might read Three Billy Goats Gruff to my kids tonight.

Nickbo,
Are you calling me a troll?
Stay away from the Jaycar Chineese Crap.
As suggested a MCM with inbuilt GSM is the way to go.
Consider this, the alarm will call his mobile on a low battery or a power fail also ...
You can have it professionally monitored for as little as $4 a week these days..
Guys,
Thanks for the suggestions on the MCM.
I wasn't aware of it and looking at their site, it looks the go.
I have sent an email to their sales dept and am waiting on a reply so, with a bit of luck, it will fit the bill (in more ways than one ).
Its a bit of an odd location in WA and is a good couple of hours drive from "civilisation". But, it does have mobile coverage (GSM & 3) so that's why I was keen to go that way. Its also why security companys etc are probably not worth it and even getting them to install there is gonna be $$.
We are talking about a 2 BR fibro shack with a shed that he keeps the dinghy in. Some little twat tried to get in there a couple of weeks ago and so he's looking at some form of alarm. So as much as possible it will be to put it in and just leave it, knowing it will make a fuss if it goes off.
The plan is simply that if an alarm does go off, he can call one of the permanents to wander over and take a look. On that basis, I am hoping the sofware supports more than one number and we might stick his mate's mobile number in there too?
Anyway, that's the plan and thanks for the info.
If that's his plan, then why is he bothering with this setup? Why not simply give them a bottle of Chivas, and tell them to "take a look" when they hear the siren going.
Better yet, give them the code, so they can shut the damned siren off.
Ive used one of these for years
8 outputs and 4 inputs all SMS

Or even easier, perhaps looking into a FE3000? FE2000? They have keyswitch inputs, outputs and normal inputs, quick and simple in one box. Just a thought....
But guys honestly, if the customer wants a cheaper method, do you think complaining on a forum is going to change there minds?

Actually, I'm trying to save him money, as well as prevent him having a false sense of security. Too often I see people who put in a very cheap, nasty system with thirty cent monitoring, and then act surprised when the whole thing turns into a train wreck, followed by a bill from a random response company who turn up four hours late to go "yep, it's a B&E".
At least if you have a local alarm, you have no mistaken belief in its capabilities and aren't potentially misleading your insurer ("oh yes, my Dick Smith alarm-master 9000 is back to base").
As I said, its a fibro beach shack. We are not securing the crown jewels, it's more knowing that its' been broken into so that he can get the door/window fixed to stop snakes, seagulls, rats and everything else that makes the place such a joy to visit, from getting in.
What sort of $$ are we talking about for the panel ? (the FE and indeed the MCM) both look pretty good. But I can't seem to get aprice - still waiting on an email back. I just want to keep the costs to a reasonable level.
Thanks again for all the comments and observations.
Cheers
Hi nickbo
take a look at one of these
TMN-50T about $450 + tax and will send sms message to up to 16 mobile phones and will attach to the type of panel you wish to use.
