All said and done, it is about time that there is one national licencing authority that all states would have to answer to, comply to and pay the same equal fees to. Hey, we could even include that little island at the bottom where tastech come from.
At present, we get zero back in the way of services, copies of standards or regulations whenever they get changed or added to. What about training?

When you add up the total of money that you have paid over the years for all of your licencing, these should be provided free of charge via electronic format. Why should we have to pay over and over again with no return. If Qld contributed their fair share then the SIR could put in a second phone line to answer all of our complaints.

The word fee should be changed to TAX because that is all it is. When you apply for a drivers licence do you have to purchase the the rules book?
Wait till you are forced to pay a fee when they decide to change the security classes and tell you if you don't do it by a certain date then you get your licence cancelled. They surely could of waited until your next renewal, ooh they would of missed out on $40.00 times how many people.
The current system makes it easier for the unlicenced to undercut us the licenced and provide the end user a crap service in the process with no comebacks. Do you ever see them hunting down the unlicenced, never as it is easier to go to the licenced database and hassel them for compliance.

I for one would like to see a national system and a level playing field for all.

I personally hold a Queensland New South Wales and Victorian Security License, What we queenslanders are dirty about is not the fact we have to pay, its the fact that the 'police probity check/aka Background Check' checks for associations and convictions, thats it, they dont enforce the fact that you have to have SOME kind of qualification like in VIC/NSW, when I first heard about this a while back, I thought, fantastic, we can finally get rid of the shonkies and the back yarders, but this is not the case, they have simply ignored the licensing, like what they did with the ACMA/ACA license and continued to work, Laughed myself silly early last week, I ran into a group of guards walking the streets (and bounced off, big lads!) talking to people and getting lines, simply by Sweet talk and BS, hey, no harm its a democracy and a freeish market, good luck to them!, But the funny thing is that they do all of there own monitoring and repairs and cutovers, dangerous I said, I asked if they have a class 2, and they said 'No, why do we need it, we've been doing this for years', I said 'I've been doing 'this' for years (and yes I was a smart ass and did air parentathis (and excuse the spelling its early this morning, damn clients and damn remote armings!)) and you have to be licensed', the discussion went no where, as they where clearly of the opinion that Class 1 is all you need...

So honestly, if there are any movers and shakers or law makers and bakers on the forum, its really an exercise in futility, unless you have some way to enforce the laws, you're never going to get the bad eggs out ....

Oh God! Dont get me started, here is my travels with the various government agencies :-

QLD -- 1st Call, you only need a class 2 license sir, Second Call, you need a 1+2 License Sir, Third Call, you Dont need a class 1 if your only doing buereu monitoring Sir, Forth Call -- Contact your lawyer for Legal Advice....

NSW -- Couldnt actually get through to them I got stuck in some kind of weird loop in there call answering software.. Emails backwards and forwards for months, they said to monitor lines all we need is a class 1+2 license for the person who is doing the monitoring (and I have it in writing, so they cant complain in the future!) and installing.. If they go into the state to do work, then you need to get company licenses..

VIC -- After talking at length to the licensing branch, it was discovered, that not only do I need all the licenses, but the company does as well, or we could get a special dispensation from the commissioner, then perhaps, maybe, we dont need them... We've only got 6 clients down there, but last thing I want is a local cocky getting upset and tring to screw the pooch...

SA -- We are currently looking at several clients in this state, and for the life of me, I am unable to get a straight answer out of these people (I honestly think they are out to lunch most of the time, I call, no one answers, I've written lots of emails, and no one reply's, I'm feeling lonley up here...)

Honestly at the end of the day, just like with all licensing of companies/contractors/workers, its designed to provide a warm fuzzy feeling for people who know (and 99% of people dont) about the license, its designed to make money for governments so they can squander it on things like roads/bridges/tunnells/Wild Romps in the Forest with Pixies and Elves (I do think they are off with the fairies some days), but at the end of the day, it helps, a little, in protecting customers, no a lot, but a little positive impact can go a long way...
