I hope that is not a reflection of the security industry with such a poor grasp of the English language.

maybe we should be discussing the rip off charges and shonky practices of your industry Joey. Do you think everyone in your industry is sqeaky clean and don't rip people off.

Fortunately the industry I am in is quite small so if people want to rip others off or do shonky work they normally don't get the opportunity to do it again.
While my charges are generally too low I will never raise them to a level where anyone could even consider I have ripped them off , for this I do get pressure from competitors to increase my charges but I don't believe in price fixing or that I should give my customers less value for their money.

A mate of mine is a plumber and when he doesn't want a job because he is to busy he quotes high and in a number of instances he has got the job then he has to work weekends to catch up.
So a high quote could mean they don't want the job so if someone accepts the price given well so be it.

Obviously this is one of the drunken security techs. Actually on the spell checker in reply I have never seen so many red lines!!

Happy new year everyone, unfortunately some of us are working and have to limit the festivities.

I think quoting high is a quite acceptable ploy in cases where you don't particularly want the job, at least it gives the customer the choice to accept it or not before hand. And if they do happen to accept it then at least you are more realistically remunerated for a job that is obviously a pain in the arse anyway.

if you dont want the job, why quote in the first place.

If you didn't quote they may not ask next time and go elsewhere but if you lose job because the price is high the customer will come back and most of the customers are builders.

thats crap. if the price is to high you are known as a rip off and you dont get asked to quote again.

we got an electrician here and tradies have asked if he has quoted the job, if he has they just walk away.

Don't read something into it that is not there I didn't say all jobs just when he had a lot of work on, read the post.

Remember the electrician you talk about is still in business so he must be getting work.

Maybe he is quoting "too cheaply" on his normal jobs - thats why he is sooo busy.

Maybe he should be charging more.

Its a hard balancing act to get the right medium.
