I was lucky, disconnected from the router straight away, turned off pc,
rebooted in safe mode and hit system restore.Back 5 days.
Once it restarts don't try to delete inected folders.
Apparently trying to remove it makes it worse.
Once I was up and running I came here looking for a fix.
Thakfully there was a easy fix.

A few people in the ocau thread would disagree - some people who have fixed the problem before (with these tools) have on other occasions had to start afresh. There seems to be a few variants.

I ended up re-imaging my drive. None of the programs mentioned in either threads worked, couldn't even install a couple (probably why). I may have been able to fix it by plugging it into another computer....or making a new small partition to run these apps from, but lazyness won out - especially after the net became totally nuked.

This is the first time since 03 that i've had to re-image due to a virus/malware....serves me right for not having all the web browser exploits plugged.

Cheers, RHCP.

your down to a ubuntu cd and file searching
just F the Fker,times a wasting.
tip. wen you F mat, split the drive, save all drivers, setup programs to the bit windows isnt on.
even my documents points to D drive (200gb) and away from C on mine.
saves heaps of backing up next time.

This is a great way to set things up. More people should do it; like you say cuts backup time to almost nothing. You can even set your email account to another partition. After wasting 2 hours trying to fix it, reimaged and was back to an identical windows set-up in 10-15mins. Didn't have to back up one file. But this is almost cheating

Cheers, RHCP.
