Default Anti Virus Recommendation

OK...I have been using free av's for years but I'm getting pissed off with them. Every crack keygen etc is being flagged and tagged.

I want a recommendation for a good do-all proggie...firewall, anti virus etc that will allow me to easily remove files it doesn't like from its vault so that I can use them if I want. Does such a beast exist?

Cheers

Kaspersky Internet Security. Go to ( note NOT .au ) and you can buy a serial cheaply. I have bought several in the past and they have never been blacklisted.

Give it a free trial first for 30 days to make sure it does what you want and download it from

Everyone has jumped on KIS, but hmmm ..
Antivirus, NOD32

although alot of talk about Avira as a antivirus about these days

Firewall, ideally smoothwall, I'm going to make a smoothwall box very soon, but zonealarm is fine (although no as well UBER-ized as in the past)

zonealarm, has a suite, with all-in one solutions, I never use it for antivirus or malware.

Hi All,

I am running SBS 2003 R2 with Exchange server and am looking for a good antivirus/anti-spam program, I have heard good things of Kaspersky but didn't see a key on the listed eBay for a version that will run on SBS.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Try Rising Antivirus 2009. It's FREE, runs on SERVER platforms and after trying it for a while I say it's the best free alternative to all the above.

Some don't like RISING as it's made in China, but so far all "objective" reviews indicate it's very good, safe and no backdoors!

If you’re running Exchange you need to be carefully to add scan exclusions to some files and directories I can dig out the details if you need it.

If your running Exchange 2000 that enumerates the mail database as M: drive and anti virus programs have been known to corrupt databases because the AV program deletes attachments containing viruses which results in a hole in the database where the index says there is data. In Exchange 2003 the M: drive no longer enumerated as it created too many support calls via people or AV programs screwing with it.

Per anti spam most anti spam solutions for exchange are very expensive. GFI make a fairly cheap option but Ironport and Symantec mail security (was Brightmail before Symantec bought it ) Both the latter options are the Rolls Royce solution and only something you would look at for a corporate setup.

McAfee produce a product called Group Shield for Exchange which has antivirus and anti spam but the anti spam part is an extra subscription. If you just want the AV part PM me.

If you’re using Exchange 2003 you can define a few RBL lists in the SMTP setting so you can dump stuff listed by Spamcop etc. That works fairly well but is not 100% but it’s free.

Clamwin is an open source (FREE) Anti Virus program that is small enough to even run from a USB stick so you can take it with you.
It runs very fast and unlike all others I have come across it does not take over your resources and slow everything down

Rising AntiVirus isn't free as suggested , it's just a 30 day trial

not... it's totally free... nothing to pay ever

By the way, this is the only free muscle that runs on SERVER platform as asked for in post #8.

Hmm thanks for that , wonder why there is no mention of a free version on their own website ???

Just downloaded it now ( from one of you links ) and looks great , 62MB download that's quite big ?

Clamwin runs on Windows 2003 server have you tried on something else it wont work on ?

Clamwin is one of my fav, but it doesn't provide the full set of real-time protection as avg free and rising av free.

Rising free edition is seperately promoted through the freeav.com site.

If you have this one installed, It comes with " RavMonD.exe " which explains why it's free.
